Job Description

The Summer Auditor at the Chautauqua Institution is a position where the candidate will have hands-on experience with many scopes of work within the Accounting and Finance offices of the Chautauqua Institution and Chautauqua Hotel Company. The overview of the summer auditor responsibilities is to assist with reconciliations and verify that procedures are accurately followed while maintaining process documentation.

About Your Compensation  

Compensation for this position starts at $17.00/Hour and, with demonstrated experience and qualifications, candidates may earn up to $18.00/Hour.   

About Your Work Day 

  • Reconciliation of Receivables & Liabilities – Assist the Finance Manager with the reconciliation of balance sheet accounts as needed.
  • Manage Credit Card Disputes – The Finance Office is responsible for managing all credit card disputes. Responsibilities include the management of received disputes and their status.
  • Cash Out Procedures – Locations will be audited on their cash-out procedures. The summer auditor will select locations to observe their end-of-day cash out procedure to document that proper procedure is being followed and the cash is recorded correctly and handled. The cash out will be documented from start to finish, where it originates at the venues and is deposited to the bank after finance processing.
  • Vault Cash & Petty Cash Verification – Reconcile the cash in the bank vault agrees to the recorded balance. Reconcile Petty Cash to the bank vault.
  • Assist with any other duties as needed and deemed appropriate by the Finance Office Manager and Director of Accounting.

About the Referral Program

Chautauqua Institution’s Referral Bonus Program is a talent solution to recruit, develop, and retain a diverse workforce with all the skills and experience necessary to deliver on our goals and objectives. Chautauqua Institution will provide a $500 referral bonus (less taxes) for active employees referring a new candidate who is hired and remains employed for at least 90-days from the first physical date of work. In the case of seasonal positions working less than six months, the new candidate must remain actively employed for at least 30 days from the first physical date of work until the season's closing date. The closing date of the season is the last Sunday in August.

About Your Schedule 

Chautauqua Institution and Chautauqua Hotel Company offer flexible schedules, full and part-time, for seasonal employment during summer operations starting annually each June and concluding in August.  Seasonal employment may be available earlier (pre-season) and beyond season (post-season) based on business needs and candidate availability.  Schedules typically include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as a requirement. 

While you will confirm your final schedule with management at the time of an interview and offer of employment, you should generally anticipate the following schedule options for this position:   

Typically, will work a four or eight-hour shift with a start time that varies between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., for a total of 35 hours per week. Must be able to work one weekend shift each week.
