Job Description
The Summer Camp Counselor (Lead Counselor) oversees the daily operations of a Christian-based summer and holiday care program serving 60+ children. This role includes supervising a team of three staff members, planning and implementing faith-centered curriculum and excursions, and fostering a safe, nurturing environment rooted in Christian values. The Lead Counselor integrates daily devotions, biblical teachings, and character development into all aspects of programming. Key Responsibilities:
Program Leadership & Supervision:
- Supervise and support a team of three camp staff members.
- Delegate daily responsibilities and ensure smooth program operations.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and performance feedback to staff.
- Maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios and ensure compliance with safety standards.
Christian Curriculum & Spiritual Development:
- Develop and implement a Christian-based curriculum aligned with Biblical principles.
- Lead daily devotions including scripture reading, prayer, and faith discussions.
- Integrate Christian values such as kindness, integrity, service, and respect into daily activities.
- Encourage spiritual growth through worship, Bible stories, memory verses, and character-building lessons.
- Serve as a positive Christian role model for children and staff.
Child Supervision & Engagement:
- Oversee the care and supervision of 60+ children.
- Foster a safe, structured, and Christ-centered environment.
- Support children’s social, emotional, spiritual, and behavioral development.
- Address conflicts using biblical principles and positive behavior management strategies.
Curriculum Planning & Implementation:
- Design and implement engaging summer and holiday care programming.
- Plan age-appropriate educational, recreational, and enrichment activities.
- Incorporate arts, sports, STEM, team-building, and creative play through a Christian worldview.
- Adapt activities to meet diverse developmental needs and interests.
Excursion & Activity Coordination:
- Plan, organize, and supervise off-site excursions and special events.
- Coordinate logistics including transportation, permissions, scheduling, and safety planning.
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure all activities meet safety regulations.
Safety & Compliance:
- Maintain high standards of health and safety practices.
- Ensure proper documentation, attendance tracking, and incident reporting.
- Administer first aid when necessary (if certified).
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding program updates and spiritual development.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with children in a camp, school, church, or childcare setting.
- Demonstrated Christian faith and ability to integrate biblical principles into teaching.
- Leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage large groups effectively.
- First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Background check clearance
