Job Summary

The Supervisor Safety will develop and implement Occupational Health and Safety policies which meet legislative requirements and manage the implementation of these policies throughout the organization.

his role will direct and coordinate safety and health activities to ensure alignment with the organization's directives and programs and compliance with safety and health laws and regulations.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

Visibly support and champion Peabody's Mission and Values.

  • Act in accordance with and adhere to Safety as a Way of Life Management System.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate work with multiple departments on the mine site.
  • Drives established safety and health objectives.
  • Identifies and implements improvement opportunities with the mine's safety and health performance.
  • Assists with maintaining the mine's safety performance standards, specifications and programs including training.
  • Assists in the response and correction of significant safety events.
  • Investigation of accidents that may happen, as well as reports of any unsafe working conditions.
  • Monitors and communicates the mines safety performance to all employees.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards.
  • Assist with mines worker's compensation program.
  • Prepare and conduct safety training sessions for employees and vendors.
  • Conduct weekly safety audits and complete safety interactions.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to include presentation skills.

  • Knowledge in Microsoft software: Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to direct employees in a safe, efficient and productive manner.
  • Ability to work effectively and interface with all levels of employees within PRCC organization and representatives from outside agencies (including both state and federal agencies).
  • Ability to recognize and develop skills and abilities in others.
  • Knowledge of MSHA standards.
  • Knowledge of Industrial Hygiene to include noise, dust, ergonomics and HazCom management.
  • Ability to listen and encourage transfer of information, suggestions and concerns.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule and additional hours when needed.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain Mine Foreman's Certificate.
  • MSHA or OSHA Instructor qualified preferred.
  • Emergency response team experience, CPR and First Aid Certified preferred.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Company.

Physical Requirements

Physical Requirements - Surface Environment:

Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift

  • Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
  • Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on and off equipment and ladders
  • Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
  • Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms and legs and good hand to eye coordination
  • Must have the ability to lift/raise 10 - 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the course of work shift
  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area
  • The job requires that you be able to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evenings and nights with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)

Education

  • High School Degree or GED Equivalent required
  • B.S. or equivalent degree in related field or Commensurate Work Experience or Safety Certificate Preferred
