Job Description

Position Summary:

Develop and execute supply chain strategies, programs, and projects to improve cost effectiveness and efficient procurement of various commodities to ensure superior customer service and accomplishment of company objectives. This role works closely with procurement, production planning, operations, quality, and logistics teams to improve supplier performance and support production material needs. Through data‑driven insights and continuous‑improvement initiatives, the specialist helps build a more resilient supply chain that meets evolving production and customer demands.

Principle Duties (includes, but is not limited to):

  • Develops strategic sourcing, rationalization plans and programs for assigned commodities.

  • Develops purchasing strategies consistent with inventory goals (i.e., inventory goals, blanket orders, Kanban programs, LTA's, etc.) and OpEx goals.

  • Work with production to determine material shortages and collaborate with buyers to expedite material with suppliers as needed

  • Researches and selects assigned commodity suppliers on new items consistent with current purchasing policies and procedures.

  • Develops long-term agreements (LTA's) with key suppliers: i.e. price, quality, delivery, etc.

  • Obtains commodities pricing and delivery information as requested for quotes and/or other departments.

  • Initiates quotation requests, receives quotations, analyzes information and makes recommendations for sourcing.

  • Maintain status of all sampling and/or pre-production activities for all assigned commodities until parts are approved for production.

  • Develops cost improvement or cost containment programs by initiating changes in suppliers, materials, specifications, tolerances, initiating new manufacturing processes, etc.

  • Leverage sourcing and consolidate suppliers with other Crane Co locations to develop improved supply chain practices and cost reduction.

  • Develop and maintain commodity supplier performance information (i.e. quality, delivery, etc.) and establish partnerships with suppliers as appropriate.

  • Works with all suppliers for continuous improvement in quality, delivery and lead time of purchased parts.

  • Meet with internal and external suppliers to investigate facilities, capacity and the overall capability to meet quality requirements, specifications and delivery requirements.

  • Works closely with Inspection and Engineering to ensure the highest standards are maintained on all incoming commodities, including involvement with the Material Review Board.

  • Work closely with Engineering and Quality to develop strategies to decrease or eliminate unsatisfactory materials.

  • Act as liaison between Engineering and suppliers/customers to resolve quality issues relating to assigned commodities.

  • Maintain system accuracy for prime suppliers through MRP.

  • Update standard cost as required.

  • Assist Buyers and Planners to utilize excess and non-moving commodity inventory and controls incoming inventory to the current level of business.

  • Participates actively in the OpEx and Quality processes including project team involvement, problem solving, and recommending solutions to enhance and improve the quality of departmental and/or company-wide business activities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications / Experience:

  • Good working knowledge of product specifications.

  • Good organizational skills and time management.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • 1-2 years professional experience in supply chain or related field.

  • B.A. Business, Operations Management, Procurement or related degree.

  • Outstanding negotiating skills.
