With the most comprehensive rehabilitation services in Michigan and an exclusive focus on rehabilitation, Mary Free Bed physicians, nurses and therapists help our patients achieve outstanding clinical outcomes. The growing Mary Free Bed Network provides patients throughout the state with access to our unique standard of care. Job SummaryThe Central Supply Coordinator serves as the primary resource to nursing leadership and staff with regards to providing access to the necessary supplies and equipment in order to provide the best level of patient care balanced with a budget-conscience purchasing regimen.  This position also works collaboratively with Unit Aids, CSR Assistants, Nursing Education, Purchasing and the Manager of Supply Chain and Inventory Control to promote best practices with supply ordering, stocking, usage and charging.Mission StatementRestoring hope and freedom through rehabilitation.Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintains adequate levels of supplies, equipment and utensils on the patient care units.

  • Rotates stock to ensure sterility.

  • Meets with sales representatives, orders supplies and equipment; ensuring best/contract pricing is achieved.

  • Monitors and records all departmental expenditures, with responsibility of staying within/below budget.

  • Champions and develops training to achieve increased compliance with charge-capture and supply stocking.

  • Educates Central Supply Assistants and Unit Aids regarding ordering, proper stocking techniques, and other Central Supply procedures.

  • Annually reviews and updates departmental SDS forms.

  • Researches new products and equipment, schedules in-services when needed.  Provides in-service programs as needed.

  • Determines the appropriateness of all purchases upon receipt of merchandise.

  • Receives and examines all purchases.  Authenticates invoices.  Attaches charge tickets to all chargeable items.

  • Records stock number(s) and maintains appropriate records to assure compliance with Central Supply budget.

  • Follows Biomedical Electrical Equipment program.  Maintains equipment in proper working condition and sends defective equipment for repairs to appropriate repair person. 

  • Assists with competency program requirements related to durable medical equipment as requested.

  • Develops a collaborative working relationship with co-workers, especially Nursing Leadership and the SMHC Dispatch Center through communication and committee work.

  • Maintains and edits central supply operational policies and procedures. 

  • Provides orientation for new employees.

  • Assists on nursing unit on an as needed basis.

Customer Service Responsibilities:Demonstrates excellent customer service behaviors consistent with organizational and departmental standards. Consistently promotes teamwork and direct communication with co-workers. Deals discretely and sensitively with confidential information.Responsibilities in Quality Improvement:Contributes by identifying problems and seeking solutions. Promotes patient/family satisfaction where possible; participates in departmental efforts to monitor and report customer service.Essential Job Qualifications (Knowledge, Education, and Training Requirements):

  • Enrolled in Supply chain or passionate about health care

  • Medical background.

  • Initiative/ability to work independently.

  • Flexible / variable schedule, to include weekend hours.

  • Organizational skills.

  • Communication/public relations skills.

  • Professional mannerism in dealing with nursing staff, physicians, allied health professionals, patients, visitors, SMH staff and/or vendors.

  • Ability to perform work of medium demand that involves standing, sitting, pushing carts, and lifting articles.

  • Computer skills.

  • Physical Demands:

    • Able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally (up to 1/3 of the time)

    • Able to lift, carry, push, pull, up to 50 pounds occasionally

    • Able to sit for the majority (1/3 – 2/3) of the time, but may involve brief periods of time involving walking or standing.

    • Able to use keyboard frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time)
