Job Description
The Town of Abingdon, Virginia, is accepting applications for a part-time Support Staff to work specifically in childcare at the facility. The Support Staff will provide an environment for youth, ages 5-12 years old, that focuses on their health and safety. They shall possess specific knowledge of safety in the facility, be familiar with rules and regulations of the Coomes Recreation Center and be aware of all emergency guidelines.
Required Availability: This position will need to be available to work afternoons/evenings, on weekdays.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Communicating with supervisor to provide a safe / child friendly environment.
- Must be able to work without supervision
- Assist director and staff in any events related to the CRC and Community/Special events as required
- Plan, lead, and guide activities throughout the day, such as reading, physical activity, and creative expression through art and song
- Monitor children throughout the day and ensure safety at all times
Minimum Skills and Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with children / toddlers
- Safety conscious with keen observation skills
- CPR/First Aid Training preferred; however, training provided onsite upon employment
