The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a part-time Supported Education and Employment Specialist position. he Audubon/OnTrackNY Step-Up Program is a multi-disciplinary program for young-adults with a primary psychotic disorder transitioning from the OnTrackNY coordinated specialty care program to the Audubon Clinic. The Step-Up Program is based at the Audubon Clinic, part of the Washington Heights Community Service within the NYS Psychiatric Institute/ Columbia Department of Psychiatry, a premier research, clinical, and academic center. The program aims to support these young adults in their recovery and provides comprehensive mental health care, case management support, peer support, education/employment support, and on-site medical and nursing services.
The Supported Education Employment Specialist is a part-time, on-site position supporting participants in meeting their goals for school and work. The approach to care is hopeful, recovery-oriented, collaborative and engaging to young people. The Supported Education Employment Specialist will report to the Step-Up Program Director.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Engaging participants and establishing trusting, collaborative relationships directed toward the goal of education or competitive employment
- Collaborating with other team members to deliver SEE support within the context of the model (e.g. helping participants explore their interests, practicing skills that can help them get a job, etc.)
- Providing job development and job search services based on participants' interests; providing support with applying to, returning to or staying in school, including liaising with high school, colleges and other educational institutions
- Arranging access to entitlements counseling for participants and their families
- Spending significant time in the community (e.g. meeting participants at home, workplace, school, coffee shop, library)
- Meeting with school personnel and potential employers
- Collaborating closely with team members and participating in the team meeting
- Ensuring timely and accurate documentation of all services provided
- Completing required data reporting for program evaluation
- Completing other tasks as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least (1) year of experience providing employment or education services.
- At least (1) year of experience working with adolescents and/or adults diagnosed with mental illness.
- Computer proficiency, including one year of experience using Microsoft Word and one year of experience with or willingness to learn Microsoft Outlook
- Bilingual English/Spanish
