Job Description

Critical to the needs of our IT Department, the File Services Systems Administrator is responsible for modernizing file services and enabling secure, efficient collaboration across the organization. This role demonstrates a deep understanding of how users interact with files, permissions, and collaboration platforms to design, migrate, and support modern Microsoft 365 file and collaboration solutions.

The Systems Administrator will have a primary focus on file management, file migrations, and Microsoft Teams administration, with an emphasis on migrating back-office departments from on-premises Windows file shares to Microsoft Teams channels and SharePoint Online. This role partners closely with business stakeholders to ensure data integrity, security, governance, and user adoption throughout the migration lifecycle.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning and execution of file share migrations from on-prem Windows servers to Microsoft Teams and SharePoint Online.
  • Design and implement Teams channel and SharePoint information architecture aligned to business workflows and data governance requirements.
  • Perform file discovery, cleanup, classification, and permissions remediation prior to migration.
  • Utilize ShareGate (preferred) or similar tools to execute, validate, and report on file and collaboration migrations.
  • Ensure data integrity, access controls, retention, and compliance throughout the migration process.
  • Develop migration runbooks, SOPs, and rollback plans to support repeatable and low-risk execution.
  • Provide technical expertise to ensure correct application of operational procedures.
  • Contribute to planning and implementation of infrastructure maintenance and updates.
  • Implement agreed infrastructure changes and maintenance routines.
  • Investigate and resolve operational issues related to file services and collaboration platforms.
  • Provide reporting and recommendations for optimization and continuous improvement.

Work Experience:

  • 5-7 years of Microsoft Systems Administration experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with file server migrations and Microsoft 365 collaboration platforms.
  • Hands-on experience administering Microsoft Teams and SharePoint Online.
  • Experience with ShareGate strongly preferred.

Education/Training:

  • BS in Information Systems or equivalent experience.

Specialized Knowledge Certificates & Licenses:

  • File services modernization and Infrastructure migrations, Microsoft Teams collaboration

Software & Technology:

  • Microsoft 365, Sharegate, Microsoft Teams, Windows File Services, Identity, security and access controls #LI-KF1
