System Safety Engineer – Secret Clearance Required

Overview
Seeking a Senior System Safety Engineer to lead and execute MIL-STD-882E compliant System Safety Programs in support of defense system development, sustainment, and lifecycle activities. This role requires close coordination with customer safety authorities, integrated product teams, and program management to achieve formal safety approval across all program phases.
Key Responsibilities
Lead one or more MIL-STD-882E compliant System Safety Programs
Perform MIL-STD-882E System Safety Program tasks and analyses (or customer-approved equivalents)
Coordinate with customer safety representatives to obtain approval from appropriate Safety Review Boards
Work across integrated product teams to eliminate hazards or implement effective risk controls
Collaborate with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production, demilitarization, and disposal
Perform System Safety Program analyses, including:
Hazard analyses
Design analyses
Brief program safety status during technical reviews and formal safety approval processes
Interpret system requirements, customer specifications, and applicable military standards
Prepare internal and customer-facing reports documenting safety analyses and findings
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
Minimum 8 years of relevant Systems Engineering or Safety Engineering experience
Experience in one or more of the following:
System Safety Engineering
Systems Engineering
Software or Firmware Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Equivalent Safety Engineering roles
Active U.S. government issued Secret security clearance
U.S. citizenship required
Desired Qualifications
Experience supporting Command and Control (C2) systems and/or Weapon Combat systems
Experience supporting DoD System Safety Programs (e.g., MIL-STD-882)
Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS)
Experience supporting proposal development efforts
Ability to solve complex problems using available data, research materials, and engineering principles
Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
Strong interpersonal and project management skills, including experience leading or directing system safety personnel
Master’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
