Salary pay rate: $63,856.00 - $79,830.40
Basic Function and Responsibility:
To administer, maintain, support, and implement physical and virtual servers, operating systems, enterprise storage and supporting infrastructure. Manage overall server operation, troubleshoot and lead problem-solving efforts. Perform server backup and storage systems maintenance, and develop infrastructure standards. Provide subject matter expertise in recommending technical solutions, and assist in the development of strategic initiatives and budget for new and replacement hardware and software. Design, create and develop new system and application implementation plans, custom scripts and testing procedures. Serve as backup for network staff, and perform administrative support as needed.
Appointing Authority and Supervision Received:
The court administrator is the appointing authority. The systems engineer will receive direct supervision by the assistant director.

Characteristic and Assigned Duties: (The following duties are representative of the position and do not include all duties which may be performed.)
- Administer Microsoft-based server systems.
- Install, update, configure, and troubleshoot system hardware and software to ensure compatibility, optimal network performance, and sufficient storage.
- Maintain, support and administer Active Directory domains.
- Implement security and network controls and resources.
- Manage and maintain backup processes and design.
- Implement and maintain disaster recovery processes and procedures.
- Manage massive data storage on storage area network.
- Manage the virtualization of servers through multiple software and hardware tools to improve the scalability and overall hardware-resource utilization.
- Assist in the discussion with business units and other departments and vendors to identify needs.
- Assist in the development of strategic and replacement plans for server and storage solutions.
- Collaborate on budget planning, and infrastructure standards.
- Contribute to the overall architecture roadmap.
- Conduct research on software and system products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts.
- Design technical solutions.
- Develop implementation plans and participate in the implementation of new technology.
- Implement and deploy new and modified utilities, software, and network connections.
- Build, develop and maintain snapshots and templates of VMWare virtual machines to provide for rapid deployments and consistency of user desktops.
- Document processes and procedures.
- Assist first and second level technical support staff with operating system issues and instruct on new processes and procedures.
- Implement and deploy new and modified utilities, software, and network connections.
- Attend training and in-services as required.
- Perform related work as required to include, but not limited to, serve on teams/committees as assigned, cross-train for other jobs as assigned, and work on special projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (This job description does not include specific physical requirements necessary to perform the job, such as, carrying, standing and lifting. Such requirements vary from position to position and may be determined by the appointing authority.)
- Knowledge of the capabilities of computers, software and peripheral equipment, virtualization software, Microsoft-based server and operating systems, active directory, imaging and scripting, backup and recovery processes, documentation, SAN technology and CISCO networking and network and desktop security protocols.
- Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally, and in writing, and have good project management skill.
- Ability to conduct research into systems issues and products as required.
- Ability to prepare clear, complete and logical reports and documentation, which can be highly detailed in nature.
- Ability to think logically and apply logic to tasks.
- Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of demands on time, and work under minimal supervision.
- Ability to establish job priorities and follow through in an independent fashion.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
Minimum Qualifications: (Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis, provided a high school diploma or GED has been obtained.)
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a business-related field, preferably with an emphasis in computer science coursework and three years of directly-related experience in MS Active Directory, VMWare software, Windows server, desktop operating systems, SCCM, Veeam, scripting, Storage Area Network (SAN) technology, Cisco networking and network security.
