Job Description:
The Tax Manager is a strategic thinker who leverages deep expertise in tax compliance to uncover tax planning opportunities that benefit both the business and its corporate shareholders. This role carries responsibility for preparing compliance for complex entities, driving tax planning through compliance reporting, and reviewing income tax returns and unclaimed property reports for less complex entities prepared by staff and senior team members.
To excel, the Tax Manager must be highly skilled in income tax, researching federal, state, and local tax laws, while also serving as a mentor who contributes to the growth and learning of junior professionals. Operating in a fast-paced environment, this individual thrives on adding value and building efficiency into everyday processes. Success in the role demands comfort with high volumes of compliance work and tight deadlines, coupled with the ability to solve problems, think abstractly, and maintain meticulous attention to detail.
What You'll Do:
Works closely with tax leadership on tax calculations to support transactions and tax planning, in addition to tax reporting in the Form 1120-S.
Analyzes corporate and shareholder data to problem solve through tax technical and tax technology solutions (including automation opportunities) to drive efficiency and tax savings every day.
Build / Incorporate acquired companies into tax compliance workpapers, seeking synergies and tax opportunities not yet identified pre-acquisition (including state considerations).
Completes general tax accounting functions including research, report/spreadsheet preparation, account interpretation and in-depth analysis to drive accuracy.
Reviews, investigates and resolves tax entry errors and inconsistencies and reports and communicates with government officials regarding tax questions as necessary.
Assist in the preparation/review of consolidated Federal (S-Corp) and state tax returns (including unitary), fiduciary and individual income tax returns and estimates.
Compiles information for and participates in audits to ensure that RaceTrac complies with all federal, state and local tax legislation.
Collaborates on tax solutions with departments such as Construction, Accounting, Supply/Distribution, and Legal to ensure that the necessary tax information is collected and the proper tax methods are implemented.
Reads and interprets tax law and assesses the company’s policies to ensure that taxes are prepared in compliance with tax legislation.
Remains knowledgeable and stays up to date on applicable tax law and general business practices.
Become proficient in tax software such as OneSource (income tax) and RIA Checkpoint.
Evaluates current processes and procedures and offers improvements for suggestions.
What We're Looking For:
Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University with a degree in accounting
5+ years income tax experience preferred across corporate, federal, and state.
Experience in public accounting at the manager level strongly preferred
Proficient in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel
Experience with OneSource, WorkDay and BNA Fixed Assets a plus
Experience preparing and filing consolidated Federal returns and unitary state returns preferred
