This role is ideal for an experienced tax professional who understands that a 1040 is not a standalone return, but a critical component of a broader client picture that may include flow-through entities, trusts, estates, and multi-generational wealth planning.

Our clients include long-standing, legacy relationships who value accuracy, continuity, discretion, and proactive guidance. This position plays a key role in honoring those relationships while delivering exceptional technical and client service.

Position Overview: As a Tax Manager – 1040 & Private Client Services, you will lead the preparation and review of complex individual income tax returns for high-net-worth individuals, family groups, and closely held business owners. You will partner closely with entity, trust, and estate tax teams to ensure that individual returns accurately reflect the broader client structure and planning objectives.

Essential Functions:

  • Review and manage the preparation of complex individual federal, state, and local income tax returns (Form 1040), including returns with pass-through income from partnerships, S corporations, trusts, and estates
  • Oversee the full client engagement lifecycle for individual tax clients, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to firm standards
  • Serve as a trusted advisor for legacy clients, demonstrating the highest level of professionalism, discretion, and responsiveness
  • Collaborate with entity, trust, and estate tax professionals to ensure alignment between individual returns and related filings
  • Develop a deep understanding of each client’s full financial and tax profile, including multi-year and multi-entity considerations
  • Monitor and apply changes in tax law impacting individual taxation and high-net-worth individuals
  • Provide timely, high-quality work products reflective of white-glove service expectations
  • Mentor and support tax staff and seasonal tax interns

Professional Perquisites:

  • 5+ years of public accounting experience with a focus on complex individual (1040) tax returns
  • Strong understanding of the integration between individual, partnership, S corporation, trust, and estate returns
  • Experience working with high-net-worth and legacy clients
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; master's degree in accounting preferred
  • Active CPA license strongly preferred
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and managerial skills
  • Exceptional communication skills both verbal and written
  • Previous experience training and mentoring tax staff and interns

Why TJT?

  • The chance to work with owners and management of North Carolina’s top middle-market companies and established family-owned businesses
