Job Description

Job Summary:

The Surgical Radiologic Technologist Team Lead is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of the patient in the Operating Room, Endoscopy Units, and Perioperative Areas. Reporting to the Surgical Radiology Manager, the Team Lead assists in the daily oversight of surgical radiology operations, ensuring all activities meet or exceed performance and customer service standards. The incumbent oversees the activities of assigned staff surgical radiologic technologists. The Team Lead monitors and adjusts work flow to meet patient needs, adjusting staff assignments as necessary to ensure effective use of resources to meet demand. Regularly performs the full range of duties of Surgical Radiologic Technologists. The Team Lead functions as an expert resource to staff and ensuring staff are trained in most current techniques and use of equipment and ensures adherence to established policies and procedures.

Education:

Required:

Graduate of an ARRT approved radiologic technology program. Reference: https://www.arrt.org/Education/ (compliant with all continuing education mandates).

Preferred:

AS Health Science in Radiologic Technology

Experience:

Required:

At least one-year prior experience as a radiologic technologist within the surgical environment, demonstrating knowledge of appropriate techniques used within this area. Experience should demonstrate effective leadership skills, including effective interpersonal and communication skills.

Completion of on the job Competency Training Program within 6 months of hire.

ARRT certified and compliant with all continuing education mandates.

ARRT registry eligible- must complete within one year of hire.

BLS completed prior to going to unit/department and maintained going forward.

Department Position Summary:

The Surgical Radiologic Tech Team Lead demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide comprehensive radiology and technical support in the Operating Room, Endoscopy Unit and Perioperative Areas appropriate to the age of the patient seen in the select areas assigned. This includes performing a variety of procedures with a vast array of x-ray producing equipment to surgical service lines, as well as occasionally second assisting in procedures. The incumbent demonstrates effective utilization of appropriate sterile techniques, patient positioning, radiology safety, as well as effective prioritization of staff assignments based on volume and activity. The Team Lead recognizes emergent situations and acts promptly and appropriately based on the patient's needs. The employee sets up equipment and room as needed for exams, and makes sure equipment is properly cleaned and stored after each exam. The employee effectively operates portable x-ray/fluoroscopy/c-arm/CT machines to produce quality images for Surgeons and Radiologists to analyze and print film as requested. The Team Lead functions as a resource to staff surgical radiologic technologists, demonstrating knowledge of appropriate techniques in fulfilling responsibilities towards patient and department. Ensures all activities of assigned staff represent highest level of professional judgment and technique, effective customer service and adherence to established policies and procedures. Other vital responsibilities include determination of the qualifications and competency of staff who provide patient care services, continuous assessment and improvement of performance of car and service provided, maintenance of Quality Control programs, as appropriate, orientation and continuing in-service education for staff, and recommendations for space, capital equipment, and other resources as necessary.

The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures. This is done through evaluation of direct supervisor by direct observation, in a skills lab, or discussed verbally or written. Competency can also be evaluated by a formal peer review process and/or by self assessment based on objective criteria that is reviewed and validated.
