Not be located in the Wake Forest School of Medicine (Winston- Salem) or Charlotte, NC market

Pay Range

$44.15 - $66.25

Serves as technical resource in the evaluation, planning, and implementation of Enterprise-wide teammate health and safety processes and practices by coordinating all elements of the teammate safety program at assigned facilities.  Responsible for the oversight of project implementations geared towards the continuous improvement of workers compensation losses and workforce safety.  Supports the redesign of workflows that impact high reliability, teammate safety and regulatory compliance. Works closely with executive leadership teams, directors, managers as well as the frontline teammates to reduce workplace hazards and mitigate risk. Collaborates with other key stakeholders to promote zero harm fundamentals across the enterprise. Serves as a change agent, driving performance improvement in teammate injury prevention across assigned locations in the Wake and Charlotte, NC region.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Assistswith the development, documentation, and program direction forsupporting functions within Teammate Health and Safety.

  • Coordinates development of standardizedprogram toolsand implementseffectiverisk assessment and hazard analysis programstomitigate risks to the organization.

  • Assistswith the development ofhealth and safetypolicies and procedures at the corporate,facilityand department level.

  • Develops and tracks implementation of injury prevention countermeasures

  • Develops andmaintainsstrong working relationships within theAdvocate HealthEnterpriseand with professional organizations and other healthcare organizations, municipal services, and regulatory authorities. 

  • Serves as a reporting member of facility-level safety-related committees as assigned.

  • Implements and oversees special projects. 

  • Develops and delivershealth and safetypresentations.

  • Deliversprofessional high-quality business quality consultancy across the depth of our operational processes.  

  • Investigatesinjuries andnear miss occurrences todetermineif current policy or procedures require changes.  Works in conjunction withdepartment leaders to complete thorough investigations of safety events, analysis of potentialhazardsand development of methods to reduce losses.  Coordinatesto ensure root cause analysis ofidentifiedcritical incidents.

  • Communicates and presents regularly to site executive teamson the occurrence ofserious safety events, and status of the site safety program/s.

  • Assistsleaderin driving the implementation of program improvements, pillar initiatives and provides support for ongoing maintenance and sustainability of the program across the organization.  

  • Research best practice/processes/policies, and procedures to effectively manage cross-functional successful programs; provides support in quality and opportunity improvements as well as operational support on select initiatives.  

  • Defines key performance indicators and metrics of success; monitors metrics and reporting to document program and project health and communicate status to theleader.  

  • Reviews safety events entered daily into the reporting system, reviewssafety data on a regular basis to identify strengths, opportunities for improvement, trends, and actionable items.

  • Assistssites, departments, and individuals in the identification of information, data requirements, and modifications needed to support program activities.  

  • Identifiesand communicates educational needs or deficienciesto ensure program compliance andoperational efficiencies.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • None Required.

Education Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent knowledge in Occupational Health and Safety, Public Health, Industrial Hygiene, IndustrialTechnologyor a health-related field.

Experience Required:

  • Typically requires5years' experiencein related discipline

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Advanced knowledge of state and federal regulations, handicapped discrimination laws, and hospital/clinic accreditation agency requirements in the states weoperate.

  • Advanced knowledge of current occupational health and safety best practices.

  • Advanced knowledge of development and trends inoccupational health and safetypractices.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with all levels of employees, management, executives, and other organizations and to address difficult and controversial issues. 

  • Ability to work and function in a complex corporate environment. 

  • Ability to build teamwork and trustinteammatesafety programs.

  • Proficiencyin usingMicrosoftOffice Suite or similar applications.

  • Awareness of key topics in the field of workforcehealth andsafety.

  • Demonstrated abilityto problemsolve and analyze process changes.  

  • Demonstrates self-direction, results- orientedand creative approach to organizational change.  

  • Must be able to extrapolate key themes (tell the story) within data.  

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work independently and collaboratively.  

  • Excellent written and verbal communicationskills;including the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of stakeholders and present professionally in front of (and to) various audiences. 

  • Effective written, verbal,communication& presentationskills.

  • Ability to comfortably work with multiple independent requests and stakeholders.  

  • Ability to develop detailed proposals and recommendation plans.  

  • Ability to handlehighly sensitive, confidential information in a respectful manner.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Worksin an officeand hospitalenvironment sitting, standing, and walking. Works with standard office equipment.

  • Position requirestravel which may result in exposure to road and weather hazards.

  • May spend time in a healthcare facility or support services setting.

  • Must be able to carry up to 15 pounds.

  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs

  • Responsible for working in a safe manner.

Preferred Job Requirements

Preferred Education:

  • Master’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Public Health, Industrial Hygiene, IndustrialTechnologyor a health-related fieldpreferred.

  • Advance training in teammatesafetyorequivalent preferred.  

Preferred Certification / License:

  • Professional licensure or certification (i.e.PE, AIA), CSP or CIHpreferred.

Preferred Experience:

  • 3 years of experience in healthcare-related fieldand experience in employee or occupational health and safety preferred.

  • Comfortable speaking to both large and small groups

  • Experience with data analytics
