Job Description

ON.energy is building the power infrastructure that makes the AI era possible. As AI demand surges past what the grid and traditional data centers can support, ON.energy provides a new class of power technology proven at gigawatt scale and trusted by the world's leading cloud and AI companies. Our systems are already deployed across 2.5 GW of hyper-scale campuses, validated by top U.S. national labs, and certified for grid-safe operation by major utilities. With real products in the field, we're scaling faster than the grid can, transforming power from a bottleneck into a competitive advantage for the companies building the future.

ON.energy is seeking a senior Technical Accounting leader to own ASC 606 accounting and revenue recognition for our renewable energy, energy storage, and software-enabled energy management businesses, and to serve as the company's go-to author for technical accounting memoranda supporting revenue, financing, and other complex U.S. GAAP matters. This role will serve as the subject matter expert for ASC 606, partnering closely with finance, commercial, legal, operations, and project teams to evaluate customer contracts, determine appropriate revenue recognition methodologies, and ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP.

The ideal candidate is a CPA with deep, hands-on ASC 606 experience in complex, contract-heavy environments (EPC, tolling/availability, energy management agreements, storage, SaaS-enabled services), who can independently evaluate performance obligations, variable consideration, and principal-versus-agent questions, and translate that analysis into clear, audit-ready memoranda.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary accounting resource and subject matter expert for ASC 606 revenue recognition matters across the organization.
  • Review and analyze customer contracts to identify performance obligations, transaction prices, variable consideration, contract modifications, significant financing components, and principal-versus-agent considerations.
  • Author clear, well-supported technical accounting memoranda documenting conclusions on revenue recognition, leases, financing/debt and equity instruments, derivatives and fair value measurements, consolidation and VIEs, equity method investments, and business combinations.
  • Partner with commercial, legal, and operations teams during contract negotiations to assess accounting implications and optimize contract structures.
  • Develop and maintain revenue recognition policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue close processes, including complex revenue calculations, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Analyze and document accounting treatment for revenue recognition (ASC 606), contract assets and liabilities, multiple-element arrangements, derivatives and fair value measurements, and consolidation and other complex accounting matters.
  • Assist with financial statement preparation and revenue-related disclosures in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Evaluate accounting implications of new products, service offerings, energy management agreements, storage contracts, and other commercial arrangements.
  • Support external audits and collaborate closely with auditors on revenue-related and other technical accounting matters, leading memo walkthroughs and comment resolution.
  • Monitor emerging accounting guidance and evaluate the impact of new FASB standards on revenue and technical accounting.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls (SOX/ICFR where applicable) over revenue recognition and technical accounting processes.
  • Mentor and review the work of other accounting team members on ASC 606 and technical accounting questions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required..
  • 8+ years of experience in public accounting, technical accounting, revenue accounting, or corporate accounting, ideally including time in a Big 4 or national public accounting firm.
  • Demonstrated, hands-on expertise applying ASC 606 in complex, multi-element contractual environments - not just review-level exposure.
  • Proven track record independently drafting technical accounting memoranda and analyses that hold up to auditor and investor scrutiny.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP beyond revenue recognition, including leases, debt and equity instruments, derivatives, consolidation, and business combinations.
  • Experience working with U.S.-based companies or multinational organizations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (and Spanish preferred).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills, with high attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

For US-based roles- What you'll get:

  • Competitive salary + annual performance-based bonus eligibility
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and company holidays

For Mexico-based roles- What you'll get:
