Job Description Summary
The Technical Leader (TL) in Machine Head Global Fleet Engineering RCA team works to technically lead and mentor a team of RCA leaders. The Technical Leader is responsible for overseeing, driving and guiding the RCA leaders in developing an understanding of engineering concepts, problem solving & project management methods and procedures. In this role, the TL will utilize their experience and expertise to solve problems, develop and execute action plans for containing, correcting, and preventing technical issues observed in the fleet. The TL will be responsible to ensure the team's on-time delivery of 8D-steps in addition to driving technical excellence and continuous improvement across the team. The TL will be the focal point for external customer interactions.The TL will also own, execute and resolve assigned RCAs related to Machine Head (Main shaft, bedplate, GBX, Main bearing, Yaw bearing, among others) from a technical & process perspective.Job Description
The TL will provide support to the Fleet Engineering Machine Head Leader and work closely with the CTH community. The TL will take the following responsibilities across the Fleet Engineering Machine Head team:
Drive Safer case On Time Delivery.
Support Functional Manager and RCA leaders in daily management ops review calls.
Oversee 8D steps progress across RCAs.
Track and drive RCA cycle time for all RCAs according to KPIs.
Drive RCA report readiness from D3 until D8, ensuring its quality according to expectations.
Drive the usage of right problem-solving tools and techniques for each RCA within the team and relevant existing playbooks.
Guide each RCA team to define the right problem-solving strategy for the different D-steps along RCA process.
Drive RCA team readiness for D-steps review, identifying and supporting TU process when required as well as vendor recovery potential opportunities.
Drive and support the implementation of the required containment and corrective actions for new units and within the existing fleet.
Drive read-across platforms/products as part of D7 step and the identification of any required DP update.
Support RCA teams readiness for CRB, TIRB, LCB and LWQ reviews as required.
Drive cross-functional and customer communication strategy for each RCA, leading/supporting customer calls when required by its functional manager and/or RCA leaders. Supports the review of standard customer communication package (CCP) for each RCA.
Act as back-up in the absence of RCA leader and Fleet Engineering Machine Head leader as required.
Responsibility for job proficiency for team - Identify gaps/areas of required growth, while coaching/mentoring RCA leaders.
Define and maintain quality of tools/methods/processes working closely with Fleet Engineering operational leader.
In addition to the hereabove mentioned TL specific tasks, the TL will also have the following responsibilities which are common to the rest of RCA leaders in the team:
Wing to Wing product issue ownership for any assigned Machine Head RCA.
Own, lead, execute, and resolve assigned critical and minor RCAs in Machine head from both technical and operational perspective following 8D process, to drive root cause analysis to achieve timely and robust issue resolution, addressing emerging issues and reducing MCU for all Machine Head components.
Develop effective relationships with the Fleet Performance, NPI Engineering (Machine Head), Field, Sourcing, Parts and Quality teams along with other resources in Customer Solutions to foster the best solutions to our fleet problems.
Documents history of the issue (Good vs. Bad vs. Standard, fault rate codes, parts affected, sequence/timeline of events, identifies List of Affected Turbines).
Defines technical workstreams & assigns owners, develops & manages action plans, maintains Quality Suite.
Develops & Coordinates Containment and Corrective Actions cross-functional communication and implementation (TIL/ETC, TWP/WDI, RFR).
Identifies and validates the root cause & contributing factors using Problem-Solving Tools.
Supports GCL for vendor recovery opportunities.
Owns internal & external communications related to RCA’s, including RCA report.
Develops Preventative Actions, including a read-across the different products.
Qualifications/Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field, (mechanical domain preferred) with a minimum of 10 years of experience in Wind or related industry and/or Root Cause Analysis.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
Ability to work with global team members
