Position Summary:
The Technician II – HVAC is responsible for providing maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical assistance as part of a multidisciplinary maintenance team supporting power generation facilities. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safe operation of plant HVAC and associated systems.
Key Objectives:
As a member of the multidisciplinary maintenance team, the Technician II – HVAC supports the execution of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities for power-generation assets. The position assists in performing scheduled maintenance using both internal and external resources, ensuring equipment availability and regulatory compliance. Assigned equipment includes, but is not limited to, troubleshooting HVAC units of various capacities, combustion turbine chiller units, plant ventilation systems (fans, louvers, and heaters), plant chiller systems, and air handling units.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Reports to the area Maintenance Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provide a safe working environment through compliance with procedures, training requirements, and approved safe work plans to protect personnel and plant equipment.
- Install, adjust, inspect, service, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC and mechanical systems used in an electrical power generation facility.
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on HVAC and plant support systems to support reliable plant operation.
- Troubleshoot HVAC-related equipment failures and perform post-event and postmortem analysis of forced outages within assigned systems.
- Follow and execute established maintenance procedures for HVAC systems and associated equipment.
- Assist with maintaining spare parts and materials needed for HVAC maintenance activities and report deficiencies as identified.
- Execute scheduled maintenance activities during unit outages and routine maintenance windows.
- Perform inspections and condition assessments of HVAC equipment to support preventive maintenance and equipment reliability.
- Utilize IBM Maximo to receive, execute, document, and close work orders as required.
- Work odd shifts and respond to after-hours or emergency callouts as required to support plant operations.
- Assist in maintaining maintenance records and documentation for assigned HVAC systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- The preferred applicant will have a minimum of two (2) years of experience performing skilled maintenance as an HVAC Technician, or completion of a two-year course of study in a technical discipline from a recognized trade, technical, or vocational school, or accredited college; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must possess a valid Oklahoma driver’s license.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Basic knowledge of HVAC and plant support system maintenance and repair in a power generation or industrial environment.
- Functional competency with personal computers including standard business software such as Excel, Access, and Word.
- Ability to methodically analyze and troubleshoot complex technical problems.
- Ability to clearly document work activities, findings, and equipment conditions through written reports and work orders.
- Ability to read, interpret, and carry out complex written and oral instructions.
- Willingness and ability to work extended hours when necessary, including scheduled overtime and emergency callouts in support of plant operations.
- Ability to complete assigned work with appropriate oversight.
PHYSICAL / MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to walk, climb stairs, crawl, and work from ladders and elevated platforms.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and around high-voltage equipment.
- Ability to lift, move, and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds on an intermittent basis.
- Must possess the mental, visual, and auditory acuity required for attention to detail.
- Manual dexterity required for the operation of test equipment, hand tools, and the installation, adjustment, and repair of control devices.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS & SAFETY CONCERNS
- Work locations may include office, indoor, and outdoor environments, including areas with high noise levels, elevated temperatures, and confined spaces.
- Emergency repair work may be required during plant or system upsets.
JOB LOCATION:
- Work is performed at the Grand River Energy Center in Chouteau, Oklahoma. Minimal travel requirements.
