Introduction
In this contingent resource assignment, you may consult on or participate in moderately complex initiatives and deliverables within Database Engineering. You will contribute to large-scale planning related to Database Engineering deliverables, review and analyze moderately complex Database Engineering challenges, and contribute to the resolution of moderately complex issues. The role involves collaborating with client personnel in Database Engineering and leveraging a solid understanding of the function, policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 4 years of Database Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of work or consulting experience, training, military experience, education.
- 6 years of hands-on experience as a Teradata Application DBA or Teradata Database Engineer.
- Proven experience supporting large scale Teradata environments in enterprise settings.
- Prior hands-on exposure to object storage technologies and OTF.
- Deep knowledge of Teradata architecture, MPP concepts, and database internals.
- Strong proficiency in Teradata SQL, BTEQ, and Teradata utilities (FastLoad, MultiLoad, TPT, FastExport).
- Experience with performance tuning, workload management, and capacity planning.
- Working knowledge of object storage integrations, backup/restore, and data archival strategies.
- Familiarity with scripting (Shell, Python preferred) for automation and operational efficiency.
- Prior work experience at the client or in the client's industry.
- Applicants must be able to work directly for Artech on W2.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Experience supporting Teradata modernization or cloud adjacent initiatives.
- Exposure to hybrid data architectures and data platform engineering teams.
- Prior experience in financial services or other highly regulated industries.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Administer and support multiple Teradata environments (development, test, and production) including enterprise data warehouses and application-specific marts.
- Perform database provisioning, space management, user/role administration, and profile management.
- Ensure high availability, stability, and operational excellence across Teradata platforms.
- Provide operational support, incident triage, and root cause analysis in partnership with infrastructure and application teams.
- Conduct capacity planning, workload analysis, and proactive performance tuning.
- Use Python to automate routine DBA tasks such as health checks, monitoring, reporting, and operational workflows.
- Design and support Teradata integrations with object storage platforms.
- Implement and manage OTF based data movement for backup, restore, archival, and data lifecycle use cases.
- Support application teams with Teradata utilities for performance-efficient data access.
- Implement and maintain database security controls, including roles, privileges, and access models.
- Participate in Teradata platform upgrades, patching, and migration initiatives.
