Job Description

The Lake County Weeds Department is currently seeking applications for:

Shop Foreman

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION: Oversee and implement equipment repairs, shop cleanliness, and organization of herbicide storage building, and lead the spray crew in the field when the coordinator is not present. The Shop Forman will also participate in the planning and implementation of a coordinated program for the prevention, containment, suppression and, where possible, eradication of noxious weeds in Lake County.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Support the direction of the district noxious weed management program, under the general direction of the Weed District Coordinator, by performing field tasks, technical and mechanical duties involved in daily application activities. Duties may include driving on and off-road vehicles; mixing chemicals and operating pesticide application equipment; working with the public in a sensitive area; mowing roadsides; mapping weeds; employing cultural and biological weed control methods, maintaining shop organization and cleanliness, and keeping equipment in working condition; Preseason In-House training and Western Area Weed Council annual crew training in May required; Maintain overall aesthetics and appeal of a safe and productive work site; Submit accurate records of vehicle and equipment service; Operate weed control equipment in a professional and safe manner to assure personal and public safety; Mix chemicals in accordance with the manufacturer label; Follow safety procedures in storage and handling of pesticides and equipment according to MSDS sheets, chemical labels and direction of the Weed District Coordinator; Assist in survey, inventory and mapping noxious weeds; Accurately complete and submit job application report forms; Attend training sessions as required; Answer routine questions concerning department functions, policies and procedures and refer the more complex inquiries to the appropriate personnel; Complete other weed control tasks as assigned by the Weed District Coordinator.

HOURS/DAYS: 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m./M-Thu; This is a temporary position. A typical season runs from early April to late October.

WAGE: $23.38/hourly
