Job Description

Position Title: Toddler Lead Teacher
Position Summary:
The Toddler Lead Teacher is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment for toddlers (ages 1–2) while ensuring compliance with Louisiana Department of Education Early Learning Center Licensing Regulations (Bulletin 137).
The Lead Teacher plans and implements daily activities using the Frog Street Curriculum, maintains high-quality teacher-child interactions, supervises assistant teachers, and ensures the classroom meets Type III Early Learning Center quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Classroom Instruction and Curriculum:
  • Implement daily lessons using the Frog Street Curriculum.
  • Plan and follow a consistent daily classroom schedule that includes:
  • Free choice learning center
  • Small group instruction
  • Large group activities
  • Outdoor play
  • Meals and rest time
  • Provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences that support cognitive, social, emotional, and language development.
  • Prepare and organize classroom materials and learning centers.
Classroom Environment:
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and engaging classroom environment.
  • Set up and manage learning centers such as:
    • Blocks
    • Dramatic play
    • Books
    • Art
    • Sensory play
    • Manipulatives
  • Rotate materials to keep children engaged and encourage exploration.
Teacher-Child Interactions:
  • Prioritize positive teacher-child interactions, which are essential for toddler development and program quality.
  • Speak to children at eye level and model appropriate language.
  • Encourage language development through conversation, songs, and reading.
  • Provide guidance and redirection for challenging behaviors in a calm and supportive manner.
Supervision and Safety:
  • Maintain constant visual and auditory supervision of children.
  • Ensure proper staff-to-child ratios as required by Louisiana licensing.
  • Monitor children during indoor play, outdoor play, meals, and transitions.
  • Follow all classroom safety procedures.
Diapering and Hygiene Procedures:
  • Follow proper diaper changing procedures including:
  • Handwashing 
  • Sanitizing diapering surfaces 
  • Proper disposal of diapers
  • Maintain sanitary classroom conditions and infection control practices.
  • Assist children with handwashing and hygiene routines.
Communication with Families:
  • Build positive relationships with families.
  • Communicate daily about children’s activities, behavior, and development.
  • Share important information about meals, rest, and classroom activities.
Classroom Leadership:
  • Lead the daily operations of the toddler classroom.
  • Supervise and guide assistant teachers.
  • Ensure classroom routines run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Provide direction and support to staff to maintain a positive classroom environment.
Professionalism:
  • Maintain professional appearance and dress appropriately for working with young children.
  • Limit personal cell phone use during classroom hours to ensure active supervision and engagement.
  • Demonstrate respect and professionalism when interacting with families, coworkers, and administration.
Attendance and Reliability:
  • Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Arrive prepared to begin classroom responsibilities on time.
  • Communicate promptly with administration regarding absences.
Teamwork:
  • Work cooperatively with coworkers and center leadership.
  • Support other classrooms when needed.
  • Assist with classroom cleaning and organization as needed.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must meet Louisiana Early Learning Center Licensing qualifications.
  • Must obtain or possess a Louisiana Early Childhood Ancillary Certificate (ECAC) within the timeframe required by the Louisiana Department of Education.
  • Experience working with toddlers in a licensed childcare setting preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Must pass required background checks.
