Apprenticely is helping Virco hire a Tool & Die Maker Apprentice in Conway, AR. 
About the Employer:
As America’s leading manufacturer and supplier of furniture and equipment for K-12 schools, Virco employs approximately 700 people nationwide. Our 560,000 square-foot Torrance, California headquarters features a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, as does our Conway, Arkansas location, which has approximately 1,750,000 square feet of operational space. Large distribution centers in Torrance and Conway facilitate the quick, efficient shipment of Virco products.

Job Purpose:

Constructs, maintains, or repairs production tooling to ensure a smooth and efficient operation

of meeting the tooling requirements for Manufacturing.

Essential Functions:

  • Constructs, maintains, and repairs robotic weld fixtures, dies, drill fixtures, compression molds, injection molds, machines, and all other associated parts to maintain or build tooling to accommodate production requirements.

  • Learn basic grinding, milling, and turning techniques.

  • Assists Manufacturing and Maintenance in troubleshooting and resolving tooling issues.

  • Learn proper heat treat practices as needed for different tool steels.

  • Understands tooling drawings and basic drafting practices to build quality parts.

  • Learn proper use of precision measuring tools.

  • Performs overtime as assigned.

  • Performs general housekeeping duties as assigned.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Apprenticeship Functions:

  • Successfully complete each phase of the apprenticeship program.

  • Demonstrate competency in required skills before advancing to the next level.

  • Meet attendance, performance, and training requirements established by the program.

  • Accept increasing responsibility and complexity of assignments as skills develop.

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Must have good communication skills, good basic mathematical skills, and good

  • analytical abilities.

  • Must have good teamwork skills, meet quality requirements, be flexible, and be able to

  • meet and maintain performance standards.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a driving background check.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Training in a machine shop.

  • CAD/CNC and computer experience.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to occasionally lift up to 70 pounds to waist level, to occasionally push/pull up to

100 pounds, and to bend, stoop, and/or climb. Must be able to stand a minimum of 8 hours

and be able to use micrometers, dial calipers, tape measures, dial indicators, mills, lathes, heat

treatment procedures, drill presses, grinders, multiple hand tools, and any other shop

equipment deemed necessary. Must wear proper protective equipment, including, but not

limited to, protective eye and/or hearing equipment, to safely perform job duties. Must be

able to work in and adjust to varying temperatures and associated environmental factors, and

to adapt quickly to physical applications requiring varying motor skills.
