Tool Design Engineer

Job Summary:

TheCutting Tool Designeris responsible forinitiatingand completingthe concept design phase for special formtools, complexIndexable cutting tools,and inserts. This includes producing detailed drawings and defining production routings for tooling used across various industries. The role involves close collaboration with Sales, Production, and Customers to ensure tooling is designed and delivered accurately and on schedule.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Design andQuotecustomformtools, Inserts andCBN, PCD, SCD and Indexable cutting tools.

• Collect data by interfacing with customers and sales reps to help make a selection of tooltypes.

• Gather manufacturing and engineering data to effectively evaluate production feasibility of the customer request and provideaccuratequotations to the customer.

• Communicate with customers about quotations,applicationsand design engineering.

• Assistinside sales with order processing, phone calls, and mail during times of excessive load.

• Request material quotes for materials when needed.

• Make engineering changes to existing designs. 

• Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering is preferred.

• Machining experience is preferred.

• The abilityto read blueprints is.

• SolidWorks/AutoCAD experience is.

• Vocational school or apprenticeshipvalued.

• Computer programming experience isvalued.

Required Skills/Abilities: 

• Knowledge of cutting tool series application understanding.

• Must have MS office skills. 

• Ability to read and understand blueprints. 

• Ability todemonstratea high levelof spatial awareness and ability to conceptualize complex geometry.

• Excellent oral/written communication skills.

• Strong organizationalskills andattention to detail.

Physical Requirements: 

• Prolongedperiods ofsitting at a desk and working on a computer.

• Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds at a time.
