In major hubs like Chicagoland area, the role is highly regulated to ensure safety on busy public roads.Core Responsibilities & DutiesA tow truck driver's primary goal is to safely transport vehicles that are disabled due to accidents, breakdowns, or illegal parking. Tow cars for police departments, insurance companies, and auto auctions.
- Vehicle Securing: Using winches and lifts to load vehicles onto flatbeds or wheel-lifts, ensuring they are properly secured for transport.
- Documentation: Taking photos of vehicle condition before and after towing and maintaining precise logs.
- Safety Protocols: Adhering to safety standards to manage traffic hazards and equipment stability during a recovery.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL):
- Class C:A Class C CDL is needed.
- Medical Certification: Illinois drivers must pass a physical exam and carry a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate, typically renewed every two years.
