Job Description

Job Description:

The Trade Compliance Intern will support the Global Trade Compliance team at Nextpower, a function that plays a critical role in enabling compliant and efficient cross-border operations as the company continues to scale globally. Trade Compliance is responsible for navigating the complexities of international trade regulations - including customs requirements, export controls, sanctions, and broker/carrier oversight - while supporting business velocity and supply chain continuity. The intern will help design and document a discrete compliance program aligned with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and global trade best practices. The intern will have the opportunity to select one primary project focus based on interest and team priorities:

Option 1: Non-Inventory Imports/Exports Compliance Program

Develop a structured compliance framework for non-inventory shipments (e.g., samples, tools, warranty returns, marketing materials) currently shipped via express carriers. This includes documenting current processes, identifying regulatory risks, and drafting standard operating procedures and controls covering classification, valuation, export screening, documentation, and recordkeeping.

Option 2: Post-Entry Customs Audit Framework

Design a risk-based post-entry customs audit methodology, including scope, sampling approach, review checklists, escalation procedures, and reporting structure. The intern may also perform a limited pilot review of entry data to identify potential compliance gaps and inform program design.

Core Responsibilities (Applicable to Either Project):

  • Research regulatory requirements and industry best practices
  • Analyze current processes and identify compliance risks or gaps
  • Develop clear documentation, SOPs, and implementation recommendations
  • Collaborate with trade compliance, logistics, finance, and other stakeholders
  • Present findings and a practical implementation roadmap at the conclusion of the internship

This role provides hands-on exposure to global trade compliance program development within a fast-growing multinational company, with deliverables that will directly support the maturation of the company's trade compliance framework.

Qualifications:

  • Currently in final year or recently graduated with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in a related field
  • Ability to commit to a 10-12-week internship beginning May 18, 2026 (Group 1) or June 15, 2026 (Group 2)
  • Availability to work full-time onsite in Fremont, CA

Compensation:

Pay is based on market location and may vary depending on experience, skills, education, and other job-related factors. For California, the hourly rate ranges from $40-$60 per hour.
