Job Description

Job Title: Transmission Line Design Engineer

Status: Full-time/Exempt

Reports to: Engineering Manager

Work Schedule: M-F (flexible hours)

Compensation: $105,000-130,000

This pay range encompasses multiple levels of the role. Career level and compensation depends on applicants credentials.

Overview:

Responsible for engineering activities associated with the design and construction of overhead and underground distribution and electrical transmission systems, including voltages from 4kV to 345kV, with a primary focus on transmission line design.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

May oversee project teams and guide junior engineers and technicians.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Meet with clients to determine project deliverables and timeline.
  • Conduct field assessments and evaluations of existing equipment, if applicable.
  • Design transmission systems according to industry standards and client requirements.
  • Perform engineering calculations and analysis.
  • Attend and/or run project meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and strategies.
  • Provide technical support during construction.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time and within established budgetary constraints.
  • Comply with internal and external quality standards for all deliverables.

The person in this role will uphold the culture of Utilitra, including relationship building with customers as well as general behavior on Utilitra or client premises or at Utilitra-sponsored events.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • At least two (2) years of experience with transmission line design and/or construction.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in the engineering or utility industry.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering design principles and methodologies.
  • Able to read and interpret construction standards and related electric codes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Licensed Engineer Intern (EI) working towards PE licensure.
  • Experience with CAD and/or Microstation, PLS-CADD, SAG10, and ARC Flash Studies.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in various outdoor environments and weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and survey sites for extended periods.
  • Capable of carrying and operating testing and survey equipment.

Travel Requirements:

Travel up to 30% of the time to various project sites, with occasional overnight stays required.
