Job Description
A Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Transportation Driver ensures residents are safely transported to medical appointments, activities, and errands while providing compassionate assistance. Key duties include operating specialized vehicles (wheelchair lifts), conducting vehicle maintenance checks, managing schedules, maintaining safety protocols, and assisting with resident boarding. They are often required to be certified nursing assistants (CNAs) or hold a valid driver's license with a clean record.
Key Responsibilities
- Safe Transportation: Transport residents to and from appointments, outings, and on-site, ensuring safety at all times.
- Assistance & Care: Assist residents in and out of vehicles, manage wheelchairs/walkers, and ensure proper securement using lifts and straps.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Perform daily pre-trip/post-trip inspections, fuel vehicles, and report necessary repairs to the supervisor.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate mileage logs, appointment records, and incident reports.
- Communication: Coordinate with the transportation scheduler/Nursing staff and communicate any changes or concerns about residents.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all traffic laws, federal/state regulations, and facility policies, including infection control protocols.
- Additional Duties: Assist with errands (picking up medication) or provide support as a hospitality assistant when not driving.
Qualifications
- License: Valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Experience: Previous experience in a nursing home or similar setting is preferred.
- Physical Ability: Capable of assisting patients with mobility limitations, lifting, and securing wheelchairs.
- Certifications: Often requires CNA certification or willingness to obtain one.
- Skills: Strong communication, compassion, patience, and safety-focused mindset.
