Job Description
Kick-start your engineering career where real-world transportation projects meet meaningful environmental impact. As a Transportation Engineering Intern at SLR, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers and environmental professionals on projects that shape how people move through their communities—from local roadway improvements to larger regional transportation systems. This is a hands-on opportunity to apply what you’re learning in the classroom, gain exposure to the consulting environment, and contribute to practical solutions that improve safety, mobility, and infrastructure across the region.
We are SLR Consulting (US), a 500+ coast-to-coast team of advisory, environmental/engineering, and regulatory professionals. We deliver environmental and sustainability services to our clients through the integration of over 30 advisory, technical environmental, and engineering disciplines to help clients address some of their most complex challenges around sustainability. We are Making Sustainability Happen.
As our new Transportation Engineering Intern, you will play an important role on a team whose work is essential to achieving this goal.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with transportation engineering tasks for roadway, multimodal, and infrastructure projects
- Support preparation of engineering calculations, technical documents, and design drawings
- Assist with traffic data collection, analysis, and reporting (e.g., traffic counts, capacity analysis)
- Support development of plans, exhibits, and figures using CAD and/or GIS software
- Help review plans, specifications, and cost estimates
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including environmental, planning, and civil engineering staff
- Participate in field work, site visits, and construction observations as needed
- Perform other technical and administrative tasks in support of project delivery

- SLR offers internships to help students get practical work experience in their chosen field. The internship is a temporary, seasonal position beginning in May through August 2026.
- The hourly range for this position is $20- $25. Final agreed upon compensation will be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, experience, internal parity, and location.
- This is a non-benefits eligible position.
Qualifications/Education/Memberships:
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field from an accredited college or university
- Completed or currently enrolled in coursework related to transportation engineering, traffic engineering, or roadway design
- Strong interest in transportation and infrastructure projects within a consulting environment
- Proficiency or coursework exposure to AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, or similar software is a plus
- Familiarity with traffic analysis tools (e.g., HCS, Synchro) is a plus, but not required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Attention to detail and willingness to learn
