Job Summary: The Truss Technician II position is responsible for the design of residential and commercial floor and roof trusses, using design software.  This role requires prior experience and knowledge of truss design principles.  The Technician will utilize architectural and structural drawings to create layouts and component drawings, collaborating with internal and external customers to ensure accuracy and compliance.   

Key Responsibilities:
  • Read and review sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data provided by design professionals
  • Evaluate the feasibility of design ideas based on safety, function, budget, and market characteristics
  • Research production specifications, provide cost estimates, and itemized production requirements
  • Modify and refine designs to conform to customer specifications or building plan changes
  • Ensure compliance with relevant building codes and standards
  • Generate truss layouts for final construction
  • Develop component documents for work orders to optimize cutting and assembly processes
  • Maintain consistent quality design work within the department.
  • Assist sales and customer service with technical inquiries
  • Present designs and modifications to sales, customers, architects, and engineers
  • Communicate with immediate peers and peers in other departments for the purpose of maintaining continuity of design philosophy and effectiveness of designs.
  • Communicate with customers as needed to clarify the customer expectations.
Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of industry experience with a strong understanding of truss design.
  • Proficient in industry software applications.
  • High School diploma, GED, or Associates’ Degree required.
  • Knowledge in Outlook, Excel, Work, and PowerPoint.
  • CAD and BIM experience preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Ability to analyze technical problems, determine root causes and develop remediation strategies for permanent resolutions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to recommend changes to drive business objectives.
  • Ability to assess situations to determine the importance, urgency, and risks, making clear decisions in the best interests of the organization.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary information.
  • Ability to effectively operate computer hardware and software.
  • Skilled and proficient in design software.
  • Knowledge of codes such as ASCE7 and TPI.
  • Strong attention to detail and be able to stay focused for long periods of time.
