Job Description
To support our continued growth in New England, CDM Smith is seeking an experienced Bridge Engineer to join our well‑established and expanding bridge design practice in the Boston area. This role is ideal for a technically strong engineer who wants to lead meaningful work, influence project outcomes, and help shape the future of bridge design across Massachusetts and the Northeast.
In this position, you will provide technical leadership on a wide range of bridge projects-from routine rehabilitation to complex, signature structures-serving MassDOT, MBTA, Massport, and other major transportation owners. You will be involved throughout the full project lifecycle, from planning and scoping through PS&E development and construction engineering services.
Why CDM Smith?
Our New England bridge team delivers innovative, high‑quality designs using the latest tools, materials, and construction methods. We are leaders in the application of accelerated bridge construction (ABC) techniques and advanced structural modeling, and we work across all major delivery methods including Design‑Bid‑Build, Design‑Build, and CM‑at‑Risk. This role offers the opportunity to work on projects that are visible, technically challenging, and regionally impactful.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as a key technical contributor and task lead on bridge design projects throughout Massachusetts and New England.
Lead and participate in all phases of bridge design, including scoping, alternatives analysis, and PS&E development.
Design a variety of bridge types, including steel, concrete, prestressed, and post‑tensioned structures.
Perform design of associated structures such as retaining walls, foundations, and gantries.
Conduct bridge load ratings and support inspection and rehabilitation efforts.
Participate in bridge and culvert inspections.
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers.
Contribute to the growth of the Massachusetts and New England bridge practice through strong leadership and the delivery of high‑quality, constructible designs.
