At CDM Smith you'll work with a diverse, dynamic team applying the latest technologies to analyze, assess, rehabilitate, renew, and expand critical water, sewer, stormwater, process, and chemical conveyance systems. We are currently seeking an Environmental Engineer to support a wide variety of water projects in Denver CO. The preferred candidates will have a background in Pipeline Conveyance / Pump Station Design and will perform well in a task leader/task manager role and have a desire to advance their career as either a project technical leader or project manager.
As a member of this team, you would contribute to CDM Smith's mission by:
- Creating and signing off on basic to highly complex engineering designs for conveyance systems, including drawings and technical specifications for pipelines, storage tanks, turnout and diversion structures, collection and distribution systems, treatment plants, and pump stations.
- Applying hydraulic modeling techniques and tools to support the design and analysis of conveyance systems including surface hydrology, pressure and gravity piping systems.
- Contributing to site design activities including facility location, grading, and paving plans.
- Inspection and condition assessment of existing systems, making recommendations for rehabilitation or replacement, and putting together pipe rehabilitation projects for bidding.
- Knowledge of different pipe materials and application of trenchless construction methods
- Reviewing draft designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations and standards.
- Developing permitting plans, applications and coordination with City Departments for work in the right-of-way, building and construction.
- Implementing rigorous quality processes and ensuring compliance with firm standards.
- Collaborating with sales staff to create proposals in response to current and potential client requests for proposal (RFPs).
- Meeting with current and potential future clients to review their current and future design needs.
- Submitting technical papers and attending conferences, symposia, etc. to improve the visibility of the firm's products and services to current and potential clients.
- Contributing to the firm's knowledge management by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs and studies.
- Providing technical guidance and training to more junior staff. Mentors more junior staff and develops them for future growth within the discipline and firm.
- Supervising the work of junior engineers on project work.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline. Professional engineering (PE) license. 7 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
