William Paterson University invites applications for the full-time 12-month position of Undergraduate Admissions Counselor.
Reporting to the Associate Director of First Year Admissions, the Admissions Counselor performs recruitment and admission and enrollment functions. The Admissions Counselor serves as an integral part of the admissions team and, as such, participates in recruitment and conversion functions and events. As a result, the position requires extensive travel and presence on and off campus to assigned geographic territories in order to identify and maintain relationships with prospective, admitted, and enrolled students and their families. As such, this position is not performed via remote operation.
The Admissions Counselor will generate student applications and assist students, as a trusted advisor, in the enrollment process being mindful that the University endeavors to retain students and maintain a student body that is diversely talented and academically prepared.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Counseling prospective students and their families on the admissions/enrollment processes and promoting the benefits of attending the University.
- Achieving a clear set of established enrollment goals through effectively managing assigned geographic territories.
- Generating inquiry actions/applications, rendering admission decisions, and facilitating enrollment next steps.
- Actively participating in admissions events on and off campus, which could include evenings and weekends on a 12-month calendar, including frequent Saturday hours; extensive travel for approximately 12 weeks in the fall and 8 weeks in the spring.
- Cultivating relationships with area high schools, community colleges, community organizations, school counselors, independent.
- Leading information sessions and presentations to prospective students and parents during school visits, college fairs, regional fairs, panels and onsite visits; counselors, students, and parents. topics include academic, social and financial offerings, as well as admissions and scholarship process and standards.
- Coordinating on-campus events and overnight programs for prospective and admitted students.
- Communicating regularly with prospective, admitted and enrolled students and their families in print, phone, email, text, and social media.
- Assisting the University admissions team with walk-ins, phone campaigns, telephone calls and web-based inquiries.
- Performing other duties as assigned that are appropriate for the position.
Qualifications - the ideal candidate must have the following:
- Bachelor's degree in communication, education, management, or related field.
- One (1) year experience at a college or university.
- Experience working with diverse and underrepresented populations.
- Knowledge of CRM software.
- Technical competency in a variety of computer applications, including but not limited to, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, spreadsheets, word processing, databases, statistical software, MS-windows, and other PC-based tools.
- Valid driver's license.
- Available for day, evening, and weekend work, including a minimum of one Saturday per month.
- Commitment to adhering to NACAC's Statement of Principles of Good Practice (SPGP).
Additional, preferred qualifications:
- Fluency in languages other than English.

- Capable of envisioning comprehensive, long-range plans or goals and identifying, evaluating, and allocating necessary resources with a specific goal in mind.

- Capable of analyzing the variety of aspects of a situation in order to gain a thorough insight and make decisions based on fact and intended outcome.
- Demonstrated commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction.
Starting Salary - AFT Range 18 - $55,142.18 - $63,410.34
