Job Description

Internship Title: Undergraduate Intern, Exhibitions and Collection Management

Academic Level: Undergraduate

Department: Exhibitions & Collections Management Department

Dates of Internship:  June 1 through August 7, 2026

Internship Overview:

The Exhibitions & Collection Management Department reports to Associate Director of Exhibitions and Collection Management and is comprised of the following sub-departments: Preparations, Production, Design, Registration, and Exhibitions. It negotiates, plans, schedules and implements approximately fifteen special exhibitions, five permanent collection exhibitions and thirty-two rotations annually. It coordinates correspondence for incoming loans; drafts, negotiates, monitors and executes contractual exhibition agreements; creates and maintains budgets for exhibition projects; manages the internal exhibition calendar; and organizes agendas and travel for exhibition-related guests including artists and collectors. It collaborates on and coordinates exhibition planning with the departments of Curatorial, Conservation, Development, Engineering & Facilities, Learning & Interpretation, Publications, Graphics, and Security, among others. It disseminates relevant exhibition information through standing departmental meetings, Microsoft Teams Planners, and email correspondence.

The Exhibitions Intern works collaboratively within the department to obtain comprehensive experience in the field of arts administration, specifically in the area of fine art museum logistics and administration. The Exhibitions Intern will attend regular departmental meetings on exhibitions and also learn about the museum’s managerial structure and organizational scheme. Projects and responsibilities can be tailored to suit the interests and career aspirations of the Exhibitions intern.

Learning Goals and Objectives:

  • Gain an understanding of Museum operations by working cross-departmentally
  • Develop project management skills to understand the lifecycle of an exhibition
  • Establish skills in non-profit budget management
  • Understand schedule development across multiple fiscal years

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with Mircosoft computer programs including Teams
  • Strong typing and data entry skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail required
  • Must have strong communication skills and be able to interact with diverse groups of people

Education and Eligibility

Undergraduate level: Students currently enrolled in an undergraduate program or who recently completed (within one year) a B.A. degree are eligible for this opportunity. Preference will be given to students with interests in pursuing a museum career. 

Anticipated Schedule:

The internship will comprise 350 hours of in-office work (35 hours per week for 10 weeks). Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm (with hour-long lunch)

Compensation:

This is a paid internship at $15 per hour.
