JOB DESCRIPTION:

Joining theNational AccountsProperty, Risk Managementteamas an Underwriting Associate, you willberesponsible forunderwriting risk for the underwritinglifecyclebothrenewaland newbusiness within limited authorityYou willpartnerwith Underwritersas well asmaintainbranch and broker relationshipson all aspects of the Underwriting functionincludingproviding the necessary information to allowtheUnderwriterto make prudent underwriting decisions.

This hybrid position works 3 days per week fromourofficesineitherChicago,Denveror Atlanta.

Job Description

Performs a combination of dutiesin accordance withdepartmental guidelines:

1. Performs underwriting analysis and documentation todetermineacceptability of riskin accordance withcompany guidelines and standards for renewal and new business withinassignedLetter of Underwriting Authority.

2.  Handlesendorsement requests within delegated authority.  Refers endorsements outside of authority to underwriter with recommended action.  Independently engagesagencyto clarify intent of endorsement or seek missing information.

3.  Handlesassigned renewal book within assigned authority anddemonstratesthe ability to triage renewal applications/specs and formulate next steps for the underwriter with outlined changes or points of attention for accounts outside authority.

4.  Works as a liaison within the branch, or across CNA to resolve issues (billing and collections, risk control, underwriting guidance from cabinet members, line of business, underwriting services subject matter experts) 

5.  Documentsassigned files ensuring completeness, compliance, and quality (correspondence, proposals, endorsements, cancellations, etc.).

6.Executes onadvanced pricing strategy (i.e.business unit pricing tools) on behalf of the Underwriter in compliance with regulatory and CNA specific underwriting strategies anddemonstratesability to document pricing rationale

7.  Completesquote proposals and negotiates with external partners within assigned authority.

8.  Leveragedas the first line point of contacttothe producers/customers on account related matters while proactivelyidentifyingopportunities forupsellor account rounding.

9.  Assistin marketing products and services through external partners andmakesfield visits.

10. Expert on systems and workflows.   Serves as a resource to others (train, problem solver, coach) andconduit forfeedback to internal underwriting partners.

11.  Keepscurrentonline ofbusiness strategy, state/territory issues,regulationsand trends.

May performadditionalduties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities 

1. Knowledge of Property and Casualty underwriting including insurance products, policy processingproceduresand documentation.

2. Strong time management, and analytical skills

3. Strong interpersonal andcommunicationsskills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA’s internal and external business partners. 

4.Demonstratedability to work independently on multiple tasks. 

5. Strongcapabilityto advise and coach others. 

6.Demonstratedcustomer service experience and the ability to interact with a wide variety of peopleon a dailybasisin person, via telephone and email. 

7. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software.

Education & Experience

1.  Bachelor’sdegree or equivalent experience. 2.  Typically,a minimum ofone to threeyearsof related work experience.

In District of Columbia,California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois,Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $47,000 to $78,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
