Job Description

Position Summary

The Used Equipment Manager is a leadership role responsible for the growth, development, and success of the entire general line used equipment operation. Individual sales objectives must be met while working with customers to manage their equipment in efforts to maintain the lowest possible cost per hour/mile. The ability to communicate the value of purchasing a premium product in a price sensitive market is necessary. The Used Equipment Manager will demonstrate initiative, commitment to teamwork, enthusiasm for customer service, and dedication to finding solutions in an efficient manner.

Essential Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Develop and accomplish the goals and objectives of the used equipment strategic plan.
  • Develop goals for the personnel in the used equipment department to assure that they contribute to the accomplishment of department goals as well as grow and develop professionally.
  • Direct our merchandising effort, both internally (information for the sales force) and externally (advertising, DUES, websites utilizing our Marketing Department)
  • Review and accept orders for used machines.
  • Oversee pricing on used inventory and rental fleet inventory.
  • Analyze monthly statements to ensure accuracy.
  • Monitor and control direct expenses.
  • Maintain gross and net profit levels in relation to goals.
  • Provide residual value estimates upon request.
  • Manage inventory levels to maximize profits and inventory turns and to minimize slow moving inventory.
  • Oversee the repair process on used equipment to ensure that necessary repairs are made and that costs are controlled.
  • Lead the effort, in conjunction with the rental fleet manager, to sell units out of the rental fleet at the appropriate time.
  • Continually develop sources from which to acquire used equipment.
  • Continually monitor salesmen and customer equipment needs to ensure proper inventory mix.
  • Advise/assist the Cat Rental Store on all asset management issues.
  • Assist Sales Representatives and Region Managers with market value of trades.
  • Promote and maintain positive relationships with external customers while promoting a positive company image in the marketplace.
  • Direct the resolution of any customer complaints and disputes in the used equipment area.
  • Build positive relationships with internal customers (salesmen, product support, etc.) and promote teamwork and good internal communications.
  • Maintain a neat appearance at all times when representing the company.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work area.
  • Follow all company proposed safety, performance and general conduct work rules.
  • Notify supervisor of any accidents or safety hazards observed.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or the equivalent (GED) required. 
  • Bachelors degree preferred. 

Experience

  • Minimum of 4-5 years previous business experience required. 
  • Heavy equipment sales experience preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Work is typically performed in a corporate office or shop environment.
  • Exposure to physical risk and all-weather conditions is associated with this position.
  • Sitting for extended periods of time and standing on hard surfaces for extended periods of time is often required.
  • The ability to safely operate lift trucks and other material handling equipment is required for the position. 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to speak, listen, write, and type effectively. 
  • Ability to reach, kneel, grasp, and stoop as required. 
  • Ability to lift items up to 50lbs. 
  • Ability to climb on equipment as required. 
  • Ability to safely drive both during the day and at night.
