JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION: Utah County Internship- Health Education Intern- No Benefits, Unpaid
This is a Part Time position and does not include benefits, and is unpaid.
All applications received will be screened by the Health Promotion and Prevention Division of the Utah County Health Department. Those applicants meeting the specified qualifications and additional screening criteria will be referred for an intern interview.
The Health Promotion and Prevention Division of the Utah County Health Department will continue to consider qualified candidates as needed until the position is filled.
Division of Health Promotion and Prevention- Local Public Health Internship
Division of Health Promotion and Prevention seeks to provide unpaid internship experience opportunities for students interested in a career working in public health at a local level within Utah County.
UCHD Internship Calendar:
Winter Internship: January- April
Applications open in October
Summer Internship: May- August

Fall Internship: September- December
Applications open in May
Qualifications:
Education in Public Health, Community Health, Health Promotion and Education, or a related field (current student or recent graduate)
Preferred: Candidates seeking an internship for school credit or to gain additional experience in the Public Health field

Internship Description(s):
Fall 2026 Internship positions:
Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention Internship:
This internship provides hands-on experience in public health and chronic disease and injury prevention in Utah County. The intern will support community health programs by promoting evidence-based workshops, assisting with asthma home visit referrals, working with healthcare partners and participating in outreach, environmental assessments, and active transportation initiatives.
Tobacco Prevention Internship:
This internship offers hands-on experience in tobacco prevention and cessation work. The intern will support partnerships with local businesses and worksites in Utah County to promote tobacco cessation resources, help plan a large resource event with community partners, educate healthcare professionals on referral pathways to tobacco cessation services and recognizing tobacco use indicators, and assist with organizing and analyzing tobacco inspection data to inform local policy and program decisions.
Substance Misuse Prevention Internship:
This internship provides hands-on experience in community-based substance misuse prevention work in Utah County. The intern will support local substance misuse prevention community coalition(s), disseminate educational materials on safe medication use, storage and disposal, educate community members about Naloxone and safe opioid use, create social media content, and assist with program evaluation.
Qualified candidates will gain experience in one or more of the following skill areas:
Conducting needs assessments
Program planning
Implementation
Evaluation
They will also learn how to advocate for health initiatives, communicate effectively, provide leadership and management, and maintain high ethical and professional standards in the field of health promotion and prevention while working with partners on policy, systems, and environment (PSE).
Candidates may be exposed to many elements of Health Promotion and Prevention programs including:

Community Health Disparities
Injury Prevention
Substance Misuse and Prevention
Suicide Prevention
Tobacco Prevention and Control
Interns will be given training and mentorship from experienced public health professionals.
