Our Dining Services team is seeking to hire a Utility Team Lead. Under the guidance of the Executive Chef, the Utility Team Lead is responsible for the general oversight of the utility team. This position ensures that the kitchen sanitation is in accordance with current applicable federal, state, local standards, guidelines and regulations.

What You'll Do In This Role

  • Conduct supply inventory and report shortages to designated personnel.
  • Inspect supplies, equipment, and work areas in order to ensure efficient service and conformance to standards.
  • Inform and/or update the executives, the peers and the subordinates on relevant information in a timely manner.
  • Provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
  • Ensure that master deep clean schedule is completed daily
  • Ensure utility aides are properly trained regarding sanitation, equipment handling chemical usage, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to cope with some problems. Confers with Chef regarding unusual problems.
  • Empty trash containers as required.
  • Sweep and mop all floors in the kitchen, wait staff area and any other places as directed by supervisor.
  • Clean and break down dish machine.
  • Clean and organize pot sinks.
  • Maintain assigned work station in a safe and sanitary condition.
  • Maintain acceptable standards of personal hygiene and complies with department dress code.
  • Follow safety regulations; report injuries or any unsafe conditions and work practices to the supervisor.
  • Complete in-service training and education compliance as assigned.
  • Performance of job tasks will involve exposure to cleaning chemicals requiring precautions.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Capable of prolonged standing and walking continuously for entire shift.
  • Ability to push dish racks
  • Frequent stooping and bending
  • Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds
  • Ability to see and hear, or to use a prosthetic that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure standards are maintained within the kitchen
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to operate a fire extinguisher, dish machine and other cleaning equipment

The Experience You'll Bring

Required

  • Prior kitchen sanitation experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Flu-vaccinated

Preferred

  • ServSafe-certified preferred
  • COVID-19 Vaccinated. As of now, the 2025-2026 COVID-19 vaccine formulation is being distributed to providers and pharmacies; however, it has not yet received official approval from the CDC. In Virginia, pharmacists may administer COVID-19 vaccines under the Virginia Board of Pharmacy's statewide protocols or with a direct order from a licensed medical provider.
