Utility Worker- Public Facilities Location: Ontario, OR 97914
Position Overview We are seeking a Utility Worker to support the maintenance and upkeep of parks, cemeteries, and public facilities. This is a hands-on role involving grounds maintenance, equipment operation, basic repairs, and seasonal work such as snow removal. Ideal candidates will have strong mechanical aptitude and experience working with tools and outdoor equipment.
Responsibilities
- Maintain parks, cemeteries, medians, and public spaces (weed control, landscaping, irrigation)
- Assist with installation and repair of sprinkler systems, lines, and heads
- Operate equipment including loaders, backhoes, snow plows, tractors, and mowers
- Perform general building maintenance (painting, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical tasks)
- Plant and maintain lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers
- Operate and maintain tools/equipment such as chainsaws, weed eaters, trucks, and welders
- Clean and maintain park facilities, including tables and structures
- Collect and dispose of trash and debris from buildings and grounds
- Open/close and secure facilities as needed
- Perform snow removal for parking lots, sidewalks, and entrances
- Assist with setup/teardown for park and recreation programs
- Support construction of new park facilities (clearing, grading, drainage, foundation work)
- Operate vehicles safely and in compliance with regulations
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license required
- Experience with landscaping, grounds maintenance, or general labor preferred
- Ability to operate or learn heavy equipment (loader, backhoe, plow, etc.)
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand and power tools
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Strong work ethic and ability to work independently or on a team
