Job Description
The Minnesota Star Tribune is an innovative modern media organization building on an extraordinary 158-year legacy. With seven Pulitzer Prizes and numerous other accolades, we stand as a beacon of journalistic excellence in Minnesota. We are the heart and voice of the North.
Our mission is to build a better Minnesota by connecting us with the people, ideas, and stories that strengthen our communities. We're seeking dynamic leaders who are passionate about journalism and democracy to help shape this future. If you are excited about reinventing one of our state's most trusted institutions and leading us into a new era of growth and excellence, we want to hear from you.
The Minnesota Star Tribune offers an 18-week fall user experience internship with our digital product department. We select talented college undergrads, grad students or recent graduates with an interest in the product side of local news. Interns will work as part of the Product department's UX team and in partnership with other departments around the company, including news, advertising, consumer growth and marketing. Each internship will be crafted around the applicant's skills and interests.
Interns will work 20 hours per week for 18 weeks between August and December, at an hourly rate of $21.89.
Preferred qualifications

- The ability to juggle multiple projects at once
- Experience using Figma to create wireframes and high-fidelity designs
- Strong organizational skills
- A track record of collaboration
- The ability to learn new concepts quickly
What you'll do
Our UX intern will work closely with product managers, engineers and design colleagues on projects with company-wide impact and real reach to the communities we serve. Projects could include user research, UX strategy, design system maintenance, design annotation and documentation, wireframes, high-fidelity designs, prototypes, design audits and more. Throughout the hiring process, applicants will have the opportunity to share their skills, passions and interests to help build what their summer projects could look like. Interns can expect to leave The Minnesota Star Tribune with a stronger news product portfolio and an expanded understanding of how rich user experiences can build lasting habits with news consumers.
