Overview
Job Description
We are seeking a thoughtful and driven UX Researcher & Designer to help shape intuitive digital solutions for complex internal workflows.
This role is primarily focused on UX research and early discovery. You will lead user and stakeholder interviews, workflow discovery, requirements definition, and research synthesis to identify pain points and translate user and business needs into clear, scalable product direction.
You will work closely with product owners, scientists, IT, Engineering, Data, and other cross-functional stakeholders. The role requires confidence working independently, often serving as the sole UX resource on an initiative and guiding projects from ambiguity through clear recommendations, requirements, and user-centered outcomes.
While this position is research-led, you will use Figma to create user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and appropriately detailed interaction or UI designs that communicate research findings, requirements, and recommended experiences. You will also help ensure experiences are responsive across desktop and mobile web use.
This is a 6-month hybrid contract with possible extension based in New Brunswick, New Jersey, requiring approximately 50% onsite attendance.
Responsibilities:
• Lead UX discovery activities, including user interviews, stakeholder interviews, workflow walk-throughs, usability testing, and other research methods appropriate to project needs.
• Synthesize research findings into clear insights, requirements, workflow recommendations, and actionable UX strategies.
• Map complex current-state and future-state workflows, identify pain points, and translate user and business needs into intuitive, scalable digital experiences.
• Facilitate workshops and stakeholder discussions to align teams around user needs, project goals, and recommended approaches.
• Serve as the primary or sole UX resource on assigned initiatives, independently driving discovery, project direction, and UX strategy through ambiguous problem spaces.
• Use Figma to create user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and low- to high-fidelity interaction or UI designs as appropriate for the project stage.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Data, IT, scientists, and business stakeholders to ensure recommendations and designs are feasible, scalable, and aligned with technical constraints.
• Present research findings, UX rationale, recommendations, and work progress to cross-functional stakeholders and leadership.
• Help educate and guide stakeholders who may have limited familiarity with UX research and user-centered design processes.
• Support responsive web experiences that work effectively across desktop and mobile screen sizes.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Typically four to seven years of experience in UX research, UX design, service design, or a related field, with demonstrated ability to independently lead complex UX initiatives.
• Experience planning and leading UX research activities, including user interviews, stakeholder interviews, workflow walk-throughs, usability testing, and research synthesis.
• Strong workflow mapping, systems-thinking, critical-thinking, and requirements-gathering skills.
• Demonstrated ability to translate research findings and user needs into clear requirements, UX strategies, user flows, interaction designs, and scalable digital experiences.
• Experience facilitating workshops, presenting recommendations, and communicating UX processes to cross-functional stakeholders and leadership.
• Ability to independently lead projects forward and navigate ambiguous or undefined problem spaces.
• Proficiency with Figma, including creation of user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and interaction or UI designs.
• Experience collaborating with Product, Engineering, Data, IT, scientists, and other business stakeholders.
• Experience designing responsive web experiences for desktop and mobile use.
• Portfolio or work samples demonstrating end-to-end UX process, including research, workflow analysis, requirements definition, decision-making, and delivered outcomes.
• Eligible to work in the United States.
• Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement with approximately 50% onsite attendance in New Brunswick, NJ.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience supporting life sciences, pharmaceutical, healthcare, laboratory, scientific, or regulated environments.
• Experience with complex enterprise systems, internal tools, operational workflows, data-heavy platforms, or scientific workflows.
• Experience with AI-enabled tools, AI product experiences, chatbots, Copilot, Claude, or conversational AI.
• Experience with data or analytics platforms, dashboards, modeling tools, or automation workflows.
• Familiarity with coding, software development, or technical product environments.
