Overview

Barings Equipment Finance - also known as MassMutual Asset Finance - is a national equipment finance investment platform managing over $9 billion in assets and originating $1-$2 billion annually. The team spans originators, credit analysts, operations, documentation, accounting, and portfolio management professionals, supporting a full‑cycle commercial finance platform.

The Equipment Valuation Specialist plays a critical role in supporting the success of an equipment leasing company by providing accurate, timely, and well-documented valuations of leased equipment. This position ensures that all equipment assets are properly assessed for value throughout their lifecycle, supporting informed decision-making for leasing, resale, and end-of-lease activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Valuation Analysis: Conduct thorough research and analysis on the market value of various types of equipment, including construction, industrial, medical, and technology assets. Utilize industry benchmarks, proprietary databases, and third-party valuation tools to determine accurate equipment values.
  • Appraisal Coordination: Coordinate and oversee third-party appraisals, ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements. Review and validate appraisal reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Data Management: Maintain and update valuation records in the company's asset management system, ensuring all equipment data is accurate and current. Track historical valuations and depreciation schedules.
  • Reporting: Prepare detailed valuation reports and present findings to internal stakeholders, including the leasing, finance, and risk management teams. Provide recommendations based on valuation outcomes.
  • Market Monitoring: Monitor market trends and changes in equipment values, and proactively update valuation methodologies to reflect current conditions.
  • Compliance: Ensure all valuation activities comply with applicable legal, regulatory, and company standards.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with origination, underwriting, finance, and operations teams to support new leases, renewals, and end-of-lease strategies.
  • Risk Assessment: Assess risks related to equipment value fluctuations and advise management on potential impacts to portfolio performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Engineering, or related field; professional valuation certification preferred.
  • 5-8+ years of experience in equipment valuation, asset management, or appraisal, preferably in the leasing industry.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with proficiency in valuation methodologies and tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in asset management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of industry regulations and compliance standards

Base Salary Range: $125,000-160,000 and additional incentive compensation.
