About EXPLO Middle School: EXPLO Middle School is an innovative 4-week summer program serving students in grades 6–8, consisting of two 2-week sessions on Wellesley College's beautiful campus. Students choose between EXPLO 360°, a diverse menu of classes exploring multiple subjects and interests, or one of our Focus Programs — intensive, specialized tracks in Veterinary Science or Medical Rotations.
About This Opportunity: We're looking for an enthusiastic veterinary science professional to lead our Veterinary Science Focus Program. As the instructor, you'll bring EXPLO's expert-designed, project-based curriculum to life while infusing your teaching with your own expertise, interests, and passion for the field.
You'll guide bright, curious middle schoolers through an experience that emphasizes collaboration, critical thinking, and real-world problem-solving — all supported by EXPLO's Office of Teaching and Learning. You'll also have the opportunity to facilitate connections with guest speakers and organizations working on the frontiers of veterinary science, inspiring students to explore new areas of study and potential future career paths.

Your Role as Instructor:Working alongside EXPLO's curriculum development team and Office of Teaching and Learning, you'll:
  • Guide students through hands-on, project-based learning experiences rooted in real-world veterinary science.
  • Foster collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Facilitate connections with guest speakers and professionals shaping the future of the field.
  • Inspire students to explore new areas of study and potential career pathways.
  • Chaperone off-campus academic trips, integrating those experiences with curricular content.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and customize EXPLO's project-based curriculum in collaboration with our Office of Teaching and Learning, drawing on your own expertise and interests.
  • Teach each weekday with an on-campus commitment from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Monday–Friday (some off-campus trip days may extend slightly beyond regular hours, within normal business hours).
  • Complete daily preparation required for an engaging student experience, including lab preparation and classroom setup.
  • Facilitate connections with external partners and guest speakers, as appropriate.
  • Attend weekly faculty meetings and provide student feedback throughout the program.
  • Chaperone off-campus academic trips with your class to integrate real-world experiences with curricular content.
Program Details + Compensation:
  • Duration: 4.5 weeks (seasonal position).
  • Training: 3-day on-campus orientation begins Wednesday, June 24, 2026. Remote pre-season coaching (lesson plan review, content preparation) scheduled flexibly based on your availability.
  • Compensation: $5,200 (based on experience and qualifications).

What We're Looking For:
Education+ Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree (minimum required).
  • Professional experience in veterinary science or a directly related field.
  • Post-graduation professional experience strongly preferred.
Availability + Authorization:
  • Available to work on campus for the entire program duration.
  • Authorized to work in the United States (or ability to obtain authorization before program start).
Skills + Qualities:
  • Passion for working with middle school students.
  • Deep expertise in veterinary science.
  • Enthusiasm for project-based, experiential learning.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Physical Requirements:This role involves:
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of supplies and lab materials.
  • Extended periods of standing and walking.
  • Significant daily walking across Wellesley College's expansive campus.
  • Setting up indoor and outdoor learning spaces, including lab preparation, before students arrive.
  • Chaperoning off-campus trips.
