Job DescriptionThe Emergency Veterinary Technician provides exceptional nursing care and technical support for critically ill and injured patients in a fast-paced emergency setting. This role works closely with veterinarians to perform advanced diagnostics, treatments, anesthesia monitoring, and supportive care while ensuring compassionate patient care and excellent client communication.Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate nursing care to emergency and hospitalized patients throughout treatment and recovery.
- Place IV catheters, collect blood samples, administer medications, and manage IV fluid therapy.
- Assist with emergency diagnostics, treatments, and supportive care procedures.
- Monitor anesthesia and assist with emergency and surgical procedures.
- Perform patient assessments, monitor vital signs, and promptly communicate changes in patient condition.
- Safely restrain and handle patients while maintaining comfort and minimizing stress.
- Assist with post-operative patient monitoring and recovery.
- Accurately document treatments, diagnostics, and patient observations within medical records.
- Communicate effectively with veterinarians, technicians, assistants, and clients regarding patient care plans.
- Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked treatment and emergency areas.
Qualifications
- Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT/CVT/RVT) preferred.
- Experienced Veterinary Technicians with a minimum of two years of veterinary experience are encouraged to apply.
- Previous emergency or specialty veterinary experience preferred
- Strong technical skills including venipuncture, catheter placement, medication administration, and patient monitoring.
- Experience with anesthesia monitoring and surgical assistance preferred.
- Knowledge of radiology safety and fluid therapy.
- Experience administering medications via SQ, IM, and IV routes.
- Proficiency in phlebotomy, catheter placement, and patient restraint techniques.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced emergency environment.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Fluent English speaking and reading skills required.
