Job Description

Be Here. Be Great. Working for a leader in the insurance industry means opportunity for you. Great American Insurance Group’s member companies are subsidiaries of American Financial Group. We combine a "small company" culture where your ideas will be heard with "big company" expertise to help you succeed. With over 35 specialty property and casualty operations, there are always opportunities here to learn and grow.

At Great American, we value and recognize the benefits derived when people with different backgrounds and experiences work together to achieve business results. Our goal is to create a workplace where all employees feel included, empowered, and enabled to perform at their best.

For over 50 years, Republic Indemnity has been a trusted partner for businesses across the western U.S., helping them effectively manage their workers' compensation costs. Our headquarters in Woodland Hills, California, coupled with our office in San Francisco, serve as hubs for our operations. We specialize in workers' compensation primarily in California, with business presence in Alaska, Arizona, Nevada, and other western states.

We are seeking a senior actuarial and product management leader to own and advance the discipline of pricing optimization, performance analytics, and product portfolio expansion across the organization, bringing a product management lens to segmentation, positioning, and lifecycle optimization.

This role combines traditional actuarial leadership with modern analytics integration and product management oversight, ensuring pricing, underwriting strategy, analytics, and product suite are aligned with market needs, company objectives, and long-term profitability.

Our Vision: Clear Paths to Success

At Republic, we believe in creating clear pathways for everyone - whether it's a broker, policyholder, injured worker, or colleague. We're committed to helping people reach their goals and achieve success. If you share this vision, we invite you to explore this exciting opportunity with us.

Great American’s culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. To support this, employees in this role are expected to be on-site three days a week, with the flexibility to work two days remotely with in-office days determined by business needs. Qualified remote candidates located in California will also be considered and expected to be in the office 1-2 times/month.

Responsibilities:

As the leader of the Actuarial and Product Management teams, this person will report to the President and be responsible for the overall management of 7 actuarial and product management staff located remotely and in our Woodland Hills office, and have primary responsibility for the following:

  • Own technical pricing strategy, develop target pricing frameworks, and lead profitability and book performance analysis.
  • Support predictive model development while serving as the primary liaison to the AFG Predictive Analytics team.
  • Leads model deployment and monitors model performance to ensure effective risk segmentation and price optimization are maintained.
  • Oversee all rate and product filings, identifying and implementing new product features, structures, and pricing innovations.
  • Define product strategy and lead product lifecycle management.
  • Analyze portfolio performance and claim trends to identify loss drivers and provide actionable recommendations to improve financial outcomes.
  • Deliver insights to improve pricing and product design through collaboration with underwriting, claims, finance, distribution, and other AFG departments as appropriate.
  • Own enterprise reporting and establish consistent metric definitions across departments.
  • Build and maintain product and segment-level performance dashboards.
  • Establish underwriting quality standards and best practices and monitor to ensure regulatory requirements and internal expectations are consistently met.
  • Interface with insurance regulators and rating bureaus to ensure compliance with state regulatory requirements.
  • Monitors legislative and regulatory changes impacting workers’ compensation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics or related field.
  • Fellow or Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS strongly preferred; ACAS considered with relevant experience).
  • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive actuarial experience in property & casualty insurance, with workers’ compensation experience strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of formal leadership experience, including prior experience leading or partnering closely with product management functions.
  • Demonstrated expertise in pricing strategy and optimization with exceptional ability to communicate and translate actuarial findings into practical business recommendations.
  • Experience integrating predictive analytics into pricing and underwriting strategies.
