Job Summary:

The Vice President of Student Affairs will provide executive leadership, strategic planning and administrative oversight for all operations and support functions in Student Enrollment & Success and Student Services. Through active engagement, the Vice President of Student Affairs provides the vision, innovation, and collaboration to enhance Cowley College's position as a student-centered institution. This position reports to the President of the College and serves as a member of the administrative team.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide vision, strategic leadership, and administrative oversight for all operational areas within Student Affairs, overseeing its key functional areas to support enrollment goals and student success. Areas of oversight include:

  • Career Engagement (which includes Veteran Services)

  • Campus Security

  • Counseling Services

  • Health Services

  • Residential Living

  • Student Accessibility Services

  • Student Life

  • Work cohesively with Vice President of Academic Affairs, Director of Student Enrollment & Success and other college constituents to develop and implement student success and enrollment management initiatives that attract and enroll incoming students, increase college retention, and graduation rates.

  • Work collaboratively with the Vice President of Academic Affairs to develop academic and co-curricular initiatives that will advance institutional goals, marketing and recruitment strategies, enrollment growth priorities and best practices in comprehensive enrollment management.

  • Oversee the development/operation of a college strategic enrollment management plan and ensure the goals of the plan are achieved through shared governance, best practices, and operations of the College.

  • Study and analyze student needs and evaluate the effectiveness of services within the division and college to meet student needs, enrollment management plan goals and college mission in accordance with student affairs best practices, standards, and competencies.

  • Work with division staff, administrators, and other college constituents to ensure compliance with college policies and procedures and local, state, and federal regulatory guidelines

  • Develop policy, procedures, and practices that support effectiveness, efficiency and quality of programs and services within the division and across the college.

  • Provides leadership and guidance for the recruitment and retention of students; actively recruits for the College and works to promote retention and student success.

  • Assist in planning and organizing various on campus events with prospective high schools, counselors, and students to promote Cowley College.

  • Develop and administer annual budgets for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management.

  • Maximize efficiencies and effectiveness through appropriate data collection and analysis.

  • Assist with cross-functional department activities incorporating consideration for broader organizational perspectives that contribute to student success.

  • Work with Director of Marketing department to develop and implement an integrated marketing and communication plan to promote enrollment across all service areas.

  • In collaboration with the Executive Director of Institutional Effectiveness monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of recruitment efforts and scholarship programs, including social media, marketing, and other emerging technologies that enhance yield with potential students and their families.

  • Supports College activities and special events through attendance and/or participation;

  • Communicates an accurate image of the College to the public. Is a positive and active representative of the College and is available to address impromptu situations involving the College during non-traditional work hours;

  • Maintains confidentiality of information exposed to in the course of business regarding students, supervisors or other employees;

  • Performs all other duties necessary to accomplish the educational objectives of the College and/or as assigned by the President.

  • Maintains an understanding of current ideas, research and practices pertaining to the areas of responsibility for this position, through continued study and participation in professional organizations.

  • Maintain courteous, professional and effective working relationships with employees, vendors and/or any other representatives of external organizations.

  • Comply with all College policies and procedures.

  • Be constantly vigilant in efforts to improve procedures, practices, policies, and the day-to-day operation of the office.

  • Assume all other related duties assigned by the President.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills, outstanding interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to create and promote a welcoming environment for students, staff, faculty and community members from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated success with creation and/or implementation of Strategic Enrollment Management Plan.
  • Demonstrated success in data analysis and experience with metric-informed strategic planning.
  • Background demonstrating cross-collaboration with executive leadership teams and college-wide colleagues.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the community college mission and purpose, teaching and learning, and student success.
  • Depth of experience in MS Office Suite and integrated student information systems (SIS).
  • Working knowledge of current trends and best practices related to comprehensive enrollment management.
  • Experience working with and intentionally serving a wide variety of students with diverse experiences and identities.
  • Demonstrated record of successfully leading strategic initiatives for advancing student services to promote student satisfaction and retention.
  • Knowledge of current developments and innovative enrollment management practices in community colleges and higher education
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work. Work well under deadline pressures.
  • Excellent human relations skills. Ability to work with individuals from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Understanding of and commitment to quality improvement.

Required Education:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution required.
  • Demonstrated experience with strategic enrollment plan development and execution.
  • Five (5) years of significant progressively college leadership experience.
  • Direct work experience in a combination of areas, such as: Admissions, Enrollment Management, Advising/Retention, Student Life, and Student Accessibility.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Director of Student Life, Director of Housing, Health Services, Director of Marketing and Strategic Communication, Director of Campus Security and Public Safety, Director of Student Enrollment & Success, Student Disability/Title IX Coordinator, Student Life Counselor, and Director of Upward Bound.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; ability to move freely around campus and other locations; ability to follow safety and security practices; ability to lift up to 20 pounds; ability to bend, stoop, reach, and grasp as required to perform responsibilities; ability to work on the computer for long periods of time.

Work Environment:

Work performed in an office environment, campus facilities and community events.
