Job Description

The University of Findlay invites applications for a Visiting Instructor of Music and Interim Director of Bands in the Department of Visual & Performing Arts for the 2026-27 academic year. This is a full-time position with the opportunity to apply for a continuing Instructor of Music and Director of Bands position in the future.

The successful candidate will work with non-music major students and community members and will direct the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble each semester, the Marching Band in the fall, and the Pep Band in the spring. Depending on the candidate's strengths and interests, additional responsibilities may include directing the Jazz Ensemble. The candidate will also participate in recruitment, assessment, and other faculty duties, and must demonstrate a strong commitment to student-centered education, as well as professional development, service, and scholarship.

A master's degree in music is required and a D.M.A. or Ph.D. in conducting, performance, or music education is preferred. Candidates holding a master's degree will be appointed as Visiting Instructor of Music, while those with a doctorate will be appointed as Visiting Assistant Professor of Music. Significant experience in band conducting and teaching is required. Additional qualifications include the ability to work effectively with musicians of varying skill levels and to build strong relationships between the University of Findlay and community performers involved in the music program.

The candidate must possess excellent communication skills and a desire to work closely with students in a university environment that values strong faculty-student relationships.
