Job Description

Wesleyan University’s Department of Biology invites applications for a full-time visiting professor of Biology beginning September 1, 2026.  The initial appointment is for one year, and is renewable for a second year based on performance.  Minimum qualifications are a Ph.D. in Biology or related field.  Job responsibilities will focus on teaching introductory biology lecture and laboratory courses. The successful candidate will teach the equivalent of five undergraduate courses each year. In the first year, the fall (September-December) teaching will include teaching two sections of Principles of Biology I (introduction to molecular and cell biology with ~40 students/section) and Principles of Biology I Laboratory (two lab sections).  The spring (January-May) teaching will include teaching Principles of Biology II laboratory (introduction to organismal and population biology, two lab sections) as well as one upper-level course in the candidate’s area of expertise. With a strong and diverse undergraduate student body, Wesleyan is a highly selective liberal arts college that values both scholarship and teaching very highly.
