Overview
Job Description
- 45% Provides clinical, laboratory or simulation instruction of Vocational Nursing students in acute care and long term care settings and in the campus laboratory located on the Van Alstyne campus. Instructs courses based on supplied vocational nursing curriculum and current best practices.
- 20% Facilitates clinical experiences to meet clinical objectives and maintains collegial attitude with clinical sites.
- 15% Works as a team member in the Vocational Nursing Department; complies with the “faculty responsibilities” as outlined in the Faculty Handbook and the College’s Policy and Procedure Manual.
- 15% Provides verbal and written formative and summative evaluation of students and clinical experiences to measure the attainment of objectives. Assists with supervision of various learning activities in skills lab and simulation lab.
- 5% Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing and/or VN Program Coordinator.
- Demonstrates Viking Values of balance, clarity, gratitude, service, teamwork, and trust.
- Creates and maintains collegial relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
- Places student success at the center of all decision-making.
- Uses a wide range of learning resources, tools and technologies to improve access and student success in higher education.
- Embraces the community college mission and the faculty role of contributing to the technical and general education of students who will apply learning to the world of work and transfer their education to a university or the workplace.
- Participates in professional development and stays current in both the professional field and in current teaching/learning best practices. Introduces pedagogical innovations as needed for effective instruction.
- Serves as a positive role model for students.
- Minimum of three years of current professional clinical nursing experience.
- Previous successful experience teaching in an educational environment is preferred.
- Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Nursing.
- Current unencumbered Registered Nurse license in the State of Texas.
- Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job.
- Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the college for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
- Demonstrated ability to engage students in the learning process and proven commitment to student success.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to lead both faculty and students to achieve goals.
- Highly organized and able to handle multiple assignments.
- Strong computer skills.
- Experience tracking student learning outcomes, analyzing resultant data, and implementing improvement plans.
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements designated by the clinical agencies.
- Does require the ability to physically stand for prolonged periods of time, perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, lift patients, and move from room to room or maneuver in limited spaces.
