Job Description

This position manages volunteer recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, communication, retention, and day-to-day coordination for service programs including Meals on Wheels.

Horizons is looking for a highly motivated, community-focused Volunteer Coordinator to lead and grow our volunteer program in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

This isn't just a coordination role - it's a chance to directly impact lives. You'll be the engine behind our Meals on Wheels program, ensuring volunteers are recruited, trained, and deployed with precision so that every client receives the meals and human connection they depend on.

What You'll Own:

Recruit, train, and supervise a dedicated volunteer base
Match volunteers to the right roles with purpose and efficiency
Oversee timely, accurate meal deliveries to Meals on Wheels clients
Spot operational inefficiencies and implement smarter solutions
Collaborate cross-functionally with staff to deliver exceptional service

Are obsessively organized and able to juggle multiple priorities without dropping the ball
Enjoy being in the community and engaging with businesses and groups to recruit volunteers
Lead with a customer-first mindset in every interaction
Communicate with clarity, warmth, and professionalism - written and verbal
Are tech-savvy with volunteer management or logistics tools
Hold an Associate's degree + 1–3 years of relevant experience (community collaboration or development experience considered)
