Job Description

About Turn/River

Turn/River Capital is a private equity firm that applies a proprietary growth engineering strategy to investing, partnering with software businesses to accelerate growth and build enduring value. The firm’s team of equal parts investors and operators provides hands-on operational support and the flexible capital to systematically scale marketing, sales and customer success at its portfolio companies. Founded in 2012 and based in San Francisco, Turn/River has $5.6bn in committed capital and invests globally with a focus on North America and Europe.

About the Role

Turn/River is seeking a VP, Talent Partner to work directly with our portfolio companies to assess, design, and strengthen their executive and go-to-market organizations. This role sits at the intersection of talent strategy, organizational design, and commercial performance — with a primary focus on executive and go-to-market teams.

You will bring deep expertise in leadership assessment, org design, and executive development — and you will apply that expertise in service of one outcome: teams that scale faster and perform better. You understand how to evaluate whether an executive is the right person for the next stage of growth. You know how to structure a go-to-market org for efficiency.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role for someone who loves rolling up their sleeves, thrives in ambiguity, and can credibly advise both a CHRO and the Executive team on the same engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define (and for key roles, run) the executive hiring process across portfolio companies.

  • Partner with portfolio company CHROs to assess organization health and recommend structural, talent, and capability improvements.

  • Conduct rigorous executive assessments of executive & GTM leaders — making clear, time-pressured recommendations on whether leaders are right for the next stage of growth.

  • Design and evolve org structures aligned to stage, growth goals, and business model — including spans of control, coverage ratios, and role architecture.

  • Serve as an executive coach and thought partner to GTM leaders navigating scale, leadership transitions, and performance pressure.

  • Advise on comp philosophy, OTE structures, and incentive design with enough depth to credibly challenge or validate what finance and sales leadership have built.

  • Advise on hiring profiles, interview processes, and onboarding approaches for critical GTM roles.

  • Help teams establish clear performance expectations, metrics, and feedback loops.

  • Identify repeatable GTM people and org best practices that can be leveraged across the Turn/River portfolio.

  • Act as a visible, trusted representative of Turn/River with portfolio leadership teams.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience, with meaningful depth in People, Talent, or Organizational Effectiveness — significant exposure to GTM and sales organizations a plus.

  • Prior experience as a Talent Partner, Operating Partner, or VP Talent at a PE or VC firm — or equivalent experience conducting executive assessments in a high-stakes, time-pressured context.

  • Ability to assess executive leadership with rigor: making clear, defensible recommendations on leadership fit within 30–60 days of engagement.

  • History of working closely alongside a CHRO or CPO, with proven ability to influence without authority across complex org change initiatives.

  • Nice to have: Exposure to commercial environments with fluency in comp plan design, quota-setting, territory structure, and coverage modeling

Location

  • San Francisco, hybrid work model

Compensation

  • The annual base salary range for this role is $345,000 - $355,000, taking into account numerous variable factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, licensure, certifications, and organizational requirements.

  • This role is eligible to participate in the Turn/River carry program and a discretionary bonus program.

Benefits and Perks

The below benefits are offered to full-time employees based out of our San Francisco office:

  • An opportunity to make an impact across multiple high-growth tech firms

  • Competitive salary and discretionary bonus

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance covered 100% for employee & dependents

  • Flexible vacation policy

  • 401K matching

  • Paid parental leave

  • Commuter benefits

  • Health and Wellness benefits

  • Household Services benefits

  • Home Office benefits

  • Annual Home Office Equipment Reimbursement

  • Donation matching

  • Work from home Monday & Friday

  • Energetic work environment with snacks and weekly team lunches 3x per week, centrally located near multiple public transit lines

  • A company that enjoys having fun: holiday parties, annual company offsite and retreat, annual summer "work from anywhere" month
