A Brief Overview

The VP IA Operations leads, executes, and facilitates the maintenance, controls, and month-end subledger close for the Global Investment portfolio. The role requires deep knowledge of a range of assets, including public and private debt, alternatives, and diverse types of mortgage loans. This is highly visible role partnering with teams in Investments, Technology, Risk, and Finance.

What you will do

  • Strategic Leadership:
  • As part of the Investment Accounting senior leadership team, defines and executes the strategic vision for their team in alignment with the IA strategies, Global Investments strategies and Global Finance strategies.
  • Builds strong partnerships with Investment senior leaders and Finance senior leaders to onboard complex structures and assets, support insurance requirements, and scale operations efficiently.
  • Leads and cultivates a team of 15-20 to build a strong bench capable of managing scale, complexity, and change.
  • Financial Close Oversight:
  • Owns accountability for team execution of closing of investment sub‑ledgers and associated reconciliations across multiple asset classes.
  • Owns the organization, sequencing, dependency management, reconciliation review, and issue escalation across close cycles.
  • Owns the control environment for investment accounting operations (design, documentation, operating effectiveness), meeting SOX 404 requirements, remediate findings, and mature controls through automation.
  • Investment Maintenance and Insurance support:
  • Owns and lead team through the onboarding of new investment strategies and structures through operational readiness and governance.
  • Owns and ensure the integrity of the accounting book of record (ABOR) across all accounting bases, with organized asset documentation to support asset decisions.
  • Owns and oversee the movement of assets between legal entities, business units, portfolios, or other purposes to support insurance needs for collateral requirements, side cars, etc.
  • Team and Process Management:
  • Function as the senior operational partner to a variety of internal partners including peers in Investment Accounting, Investment Operations, Technology, Risk, Actuarial, and Treasury.
  • Sponsor and govern enterprise transformation initiatives across IA operations, including platform modernization, automation, data quality, and operating model evolution.
  • Drive operational scalability as portfolios, products, and regulatory requirements evolve.
  • Build a high performing team by hiring, training, evaluating, coaching, and holding team members accountable to market standards. Fosters an energized and engaged work environment.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance
  • 15+ years accounting or auditing experience
  • 10+ years leadership experience
  • Broad experience across complex investment asset classes and operational accounting environments
  • Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree
  • CPA certification
  • 10+ years investment accounting experience

Skills and Abilities

Required:

  • Deep knowledge of investment accounting operations, sub‑ledger processing, reconciliation governance, and close execution across complex asset classes.
  • Proven ability to lead leaders, build succession depth, and develop high‑performing management teams.
  • Ability to synthesize operational, financial, and risk information to identify systemic issues and improvement opportunities.
  • Exercises sound executive judgment in balancing risk, controls, operational capacity, and delivery commitments.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee multiple large‑scale operations, close cycles, and transformation initiatives simultaneously.
  • Strong collaborator who aligns Operations, Reporting, IT, and Investments toward shared enterprise outcomes.
  • Executive‑level communication skills to clearly convey operational risks, priorities, and outcomes to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Champions continuous improvement, modernization, and leadership development to evolve investment accounting operations in response to business and regulatory change.

Preferred:

  • Experience with PAM, eFront, PLM, Power BI, PowerQuery, Tableau, Alteryx, SQL/Query skills.

Compensation Range:

$150,770.00 - $224,640.00 Annual

Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. RGA also maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
